From Paul, owner of Ghan House who was always so open and considerate, and manager Sarah, who was extraordinary in her grasp of details, estimating with unerring accuracy what we would need, and budgeting advice with obvious experience of people's menu choices at times of the year and all the staff for their professionalism, we are so grateful.

Our special day was indeed special and so much more! The food served to our guests was without fail exceptional. Everyone was very happy.

The surroundings and attention to detail, and presentation of Ghan House was superb.

Our Harpist, Mongolian Morin Khuur musician (who were inspired to play duets together they enjoyed their surroundings so much), DJ, photographer and Videographer were also very happy to be involved with our special day at Ghan House.

and Sarah made the planning so easy for us & even mananged to help with a last minute transport issue I had!

The venue is self is stunning, way more beautiful in real life, the bedroom was perfect & so was the food. All our guests were really impressed!

A special thankyou to Paul who mananged to help us with getting our marriage certificate back in one piece too!

Sarah, Paul, Orla & the whole team went above and beyond for us in every way possible, I wish I could do it all over again! We can't put into words just how greatful we are for making sure our day was magical - from the bottom of our hearts, Thank you!

extremely stressful at times but the professionalism and courteous manner of the staff certainly eased any doubts or stress. The beauty of the venue and location was on par with the amazing food- a delight to look at and a delight to eat.
We personally had a great day celebrating our wedding surrounded by friends and family and Ghan House played an integral role in this. Everyone seemed to be having a great day enjoying the celebration either walking in the lovely walled gardens/grounds or lounging and relaxing in the beautiful venue itself.. The weather only added to the picture perfect memory.
Definitely a beautiful wedding venue, highly recommended.

hosts are so accomodating and make you feel special. Yet all the while economically very reasonable.

I wouldn't have changed a thing and cannot praise the whole establishment high enough. The intimacy and personalising shone through over a corporate commercial conveyor belt approach in large venues or franchised brands.

It's a beautiful hotel, and feels like home from home setting for such a special family event.

We hold Paul and the team in Ghan House very close to our hearts for making our special day the best it could be.

to book, to communicating in the run up, through to the day itself was handled with ease and professionalism. We had every confidence that everything would be delivered and dealt with as discussed, which enabled us to enjoy the run up and day itself to the full. With the bridal party staying the night before and waking up to a lovely breakfast in the house, the day could not have got off to a better start. Paul and his staff were on hand throughout and were quick to deal with any query or request. They strike the balance perfectly, also knowing when to give you space. We wanted a fuss free, but beautiful wedding and The Ghan more than delivered. The house is so beautifully decorated that we didn't have to provide anything, not even flowers. The food is top quality, with the option of in-house or bring your own wine. The grounds and reception rooms offered the perfect locations for our guests to mingle and take it all in. The dancing room has a fab dancefloor and its own lighting/soundsystem. All we needed was to plug in a laptop, no need for band or DJ. With 34 guests we were able to sit around one table in the beautiful dining room and enjoy the views mixed with the sound of laughter of our nearest and dearest. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, particularly the bridal suite. Having exclusive use is a real treat, enabling you and your guests to enjoy the day and following morning to the full (including into the small hours). It was topped off by having breakfast together the next day and then heading off for a leisurely walk around Carlingford. We could not have asked for more. We cannot thank or recommend The Ghan, Paul and his fantastic team highly enough!

detail from table cloths to furniture is just perfect. Every room, every corner tells a story. The beautiful chandeliers, the piano, the fireplaces, the small things just gives that feeling of being in somebody's home, somebody who cherishes and loves this beautiful house.

Second, the food. There is just one word - homemade. From the homemade shortbread cookies in every room to the homemade bread served at the dinner. All the produce is local sourced and I have to say- top quality. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how amazing the meal was. And for breakfast? homemade jams and marmalade. Again, you can feel all the love and care that was put into preparing the food.

Last but most definitely not least - the staff. From the moment you meet the team, you know you're in good hands. It's so great to deal with people who are passionate about their job and very professional. We have been in contact all the time from the day we booked our wedding and up to the wedding day. Every detail has been discussed, all the planning was so stress free all thanks to Paul & team. Our wedding was on the week of Storm Emma. Paul has contacted me to reassure me that everything is going to be fine and it really was. Absolutely brilliant.

communication up until the day was fantastic, both Sarah and Orla were always on hand to help. The day itself was wonderful. We couldn’t have asked for more and will never forget it. The house and grounds are beautiful and the food is out of this world. Restaurant standard food is hard to find at a wedding venue and Ghan House exceeds most restaurants I’ve been too. The team were so attentive and kept the guests' glasses topped up all day. They let us dance the night away and allowed us to sit on in the lounge with wine until the early hours. The rooms are beautiful, every single one of them. I don’t have a bad word to say about the place, location, the food or the people. We just wish we could do it all again. We will be forever customers at Ghan House and can not wait for our next visit. Thank you guys, you are all wonderful.

enough for us. I remember telling Paul I was starving while we were getting photos done and out he pops with a plate of the most gorgeous sandwiches for me. The food on the day was 5 star, absolutely magnificent. Every one of our guests said the same. And they catered for every diet requirement. We didn’t want the day to end. Paul and his team made all our dreams come true on our special day. Myself and my new husband can’t recommend Ghan House enough for a wedding. We can’t thank them enough for all they did for us. Paul and his team are amazing. We want to wish them all the success in the future they all truly deserve it.

the lead up to the wedding, they made the whole process easy. The team were accommodating to our requests but also extremely helpful in suggesting alternatives and suppliers etc.

The venue is beautiful and really doesn’t require much dressing; the gardens provide a great backdrop to your photos, as does the house itself. We had good weather so were able to use the garden in the afternoon for a drinks reception and speeches and then moved into the house in the evening.

As we only had 45 guests, we were able to offer our guests the chance to choose their menus in advance which made it very special. And the food was spectacular! From the canapés, to the wedding meal and the evening buffet, everything was delicious. I may be biased, but hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever had, and all the guests agreed!

What we loved about Ghan House and what worked for our guests, was having the whole house, so if you wanted a chat away from the music, there was the bar or the sitting room but you still felt part of everything.

Finally the guest accommodation are stunning too. Lots of lovely touches, with homemade biscuits and music playing when you got into the room. We had our young nephews at the wedding so were able to accommodate them too. The breakfast was also superb and much needed after the night before!

Everything about the day was perfect. The team are all so professional and efficient and even though you don’t ever seem to see them, they’re always there when you need them!

We highly recommend Ghan House as a venue, you won’t be disappointed!

were made to feel like the house was ours for the day, a real Lords of the Manor vibe.
The atmosphere throughout the day was amazing. The weather wasn’t great, but the fires were blazing as we arrived at the drink’s reception of Prosecco, Local Beers from the Carlingford Brewery and Carlingford Oysters that just added to the homely feel, and relaxed mood we wanted for our day. Guests loved mingling between the different rooms, each with its own character.

The food on the day was absolutely fantastic, with all ingredients being sourced locally (including from their very own garden out the back!). We even had one of our guests declare “that was the best beef I’ve ever eaten”. Then for the evening there were fantastic gourmet pizzas served to guests as they took a break from dancing the feet off themselves. The whole family feel, and amazing food continues when we finally arose for breakfast the next day we were treated to a delightful breakfast. The Muesli & Jams (just to name a few) are all prepared by Paul’s Mam and are truly delicious.

A true testament to the qualities of Ghan House was in the days and weeks after our wedding when we spoke to friends and family and they said it was one of the best weddings they had been to due to the house, atmosphere and surroundings and that it wasn’t your typical function room setup.

We could not thank Paul and his staff enough. They were so accommodating and went about their work so politely and with zero fuss making our day flow so easily.

If you are looking for a standout wedding that’s totally different to the norm. A venue that’s intimate, full of character and oozes originality, then we can’t recommend Ghan House enough!"

of the house, and the unmatched feel and character of the house itself.
We had a winter celebration complete with open fires and the atmosphere was perfect. There were approximately 100 guests, which is considered a large reception for Ghan House. This didn’t present any problems whatsoever, and we were even able to have a five piece band for our after dinner entertainment. The food at Ghan House is exceptional, nothing like we’ve ever had at a wedding before (the seafood chowder is still talked about by members of our family!)
One of the big issues for us was organising everything from Australia, and we couldn’t thank Paul and his staff enough for the impeccable way in which everything was organised, down to the finest of details, responding to emails and just touching base with us every now and again. The guest rooms in the house are absolutely stunning and the service not only on the day, but also the morning after was of the highest of standards. It all made for a very warm and memorable experience and next time we visit home we’ll be sure to drop in again for dinner and maybe even stay over! Highly recommended.

venue is beautiful in itself, a lot of character, so apart from a few flowers, you don't really need to bother about decoration. We were lucky enough to have the aperitive outside on the lawn which was amazing.
My husband is Irish but I'm French, and I was looking for something a bit different from the set-menu and rigid packages that most other hotels offer. As we were looking for wedding venues, I felt for the first time that Paul was understanding what I was trying to explain. When I discovered that Stephane the chef was French, I was immediately reassured about the food quality. Stephane was flexible and we could talk through the menu. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we had a selection of mini French pastries, and it was absolutely delicious, the food at the wedding was very good too. We felt very privileged to have Ghan House for ourselves that day. Our guests had a wonderful time, some stayed the night and enjoyed the breakfast the next morning.

If you're looking for something different, a tailor-made wedding, Ghan House is the place. Paul and his team have the experience to take care of everything and walk you through all the details.

We keep fond memories of that day and we have booked already a stay at Ghan House for our first anniversary!

event itself, Sarah went through the running of the day meaning we were both totally relaxed and knew our guests and ourselves would enjoy every minute, which we did. We had a humanist ceremony downstairs and our reception upstairs. The food was fantastic, everyone was so impressed. Ghan House has so much character, lovely grounds for photos, unique accommodation, all perfectly located in beautiful Carlingford. It is a fabulous wedding venue.

the relaxing front lounge.

Within 10 mins of being in Ghan House, we knew it was the ideal location for the personal and intimate wedding we had in mind. The house itself has so much character and just wraps its arms around you as you enter. Each bedroom is unique and decorated with original period furniture. The rooms are spotless and on entering, you are met with soothing and relaxing music, which is playing in each room! (highly recommend you check out the professional photographs on their facebook page). As if this was not enough, meeting with the owner, Paul Carroll gave us a perfect insight into the relaxed, personal yet extremely professional day we would have under their care. No other venue was ever going to provide what Ghan House had to offer.

Paul himself is such a calming influence; we left each meeting feeling all was in hand and they would take care of everything…a huge plus when we had so many other things to worry about in the weeks running up to the event! On the day, I can honestly say we did not have to think about anything, other than enjoying every moment of the occasion.

The food on the day was second to none and was your normal wedding fare, rather, it was high end restaurant fare that had our guests raving about it for weeks and months after. Such is their professionalism, the meal pre-ordered by each guest, was placed in front of them without them even noticing or having to break from their conversations.

Even now, almost two years later, guests are still talking about the day and how beautiful it all was. While I would love to think this was due to myself and my husband…ha ha …. I am well aware it was due to the beautiful venue, the amazing food, the luxurious accommodation and the sheer un-intrusive professionalism showed to us all on the day. Having been to many weddings over the years, we knew what we did not want for ours. Therefore, we would highly recommend Ghan House to anyone who wants their special occasion to be unique, personal and luxurious, rather than the standard, impersonal offerings available with larger hotel venues.

special for us. Paul and his team were super attentive, flexible and innovative in the planning and execution, Ghan House was spectacular, beautifully lit with fresh seasonal flowers everywhere, a real fire in the ceremony room and lots of space for everyone. The bridal suite is amazing, had hair and makeup done there with a glass of bubbly. I was a nervous nelly but Paul made sure everything ran smoothly. We had a selection of canapés and champagne after the ceremony and chatted in the bar. Then we all went up to the gorgeous dining room on the first floor for a meal. The food is fabulous and as we had a small enough group, 24 I think, everyone got to choose from the menu rather than a set choice of two. Our evening guests starting arriving, many of whom stayed over, the band struck up and the bar was kept busy. The staff were lovely, attentive but unobtrusive, more food arrived much later in the night by brilliant French chef, French onion soup, cheese boards and other goodies. More dancing, then after a good nights sleep we all got to have breakfast together in the morning.

Our families and friends have all said it was the most laid back, welcoming and enjoyable wedding they have ever been at with fabulous food, service and setting. Would love to do it again, thanks Paul and all the Team at Ghan House. Margaret & Jerome

time we booked our wedding date, the attention, help and kindness we received from the staff of Ghan House, was incredible. They bent over backwards to help us organise our wedding day and nothing, absolutely nothing, we asked for was a problem.

From the beautiful picturesque surroundings, the ambience, the amazing food, the courteous and ever attentive staff, the actual house itself, we couldn't recommend Ghan House highly enough. YOU NEED TO VISIT AND EXPERIENCE GHAN HOUSE FOR YOURSELF!!!!
