The fantastic Danielle Lorenzi of Sweet Memories Photography shared this exquisite styled shoot with us. This 1950s inspired shoot was shot on location in Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Galway.
Danielle Lorenzi, Photographer: “I recently decided to photograph weddings and because I like fashion shoots, I contacted Joanne and Olina to organise a wedding styling shoot. We had different ideas and when I found Danielle our model, we thought she looked perfect for a 1950’s theme. I had worked with Joanne and Olina before so I knew they would be committed to the project and very professional. Everything went so smoothly and I am very pleased with the result. The Glenlo Abbey Hotel was the perfect location and the staff very accommodating.”
Olina Bridal: “Vintage or retro is quite a popular wedding theme. Good feelings of old days, sweet retro decoration and antique or vintage inspired wedding dresses add an excellent feeling to any wedding. Location is also very important, so we decided to do our photo shoot in The Glenlo Abbey Hotel in Galway. The venue offers high quality customer service, from the moment you drive through the magnificent cast iron gates you will be captivated by the beauty of Lough Corrib. Tastefully restored and truly elegant, the country estate is “a hidden gem” in the West of Ireland. We highly recommend this location for any vintage or retro weddings.”
“A bride who wants a retro or vintage style wedding should first decide on which decade she wants. I personally suggest the 1930’s and 1950’s which are the most stylish and glamorous in my eyes. To me, the most romantic part of this era was when a man would try to find and keep used parachutes to send back home to their girls so they could make a wedding dress out of the material!”
“I decided to go for a cute, ivory, lace tea length wedding dress from Wedding World in Galway. I love their selection of dresses and for me it’s always a pleasure to deal with Sarah. She is very professional and helpful. I would accessorize it with a traditional 2 tier wedding veil or a retro bridal cage and a lovely head piece. A pair of tall thin heels or unique high heels worn underneath the tea length skirt shows perfect ankles. Bodice with fitted bust, lace layers, upstanding collars, full skirt and beautiful lace material makes it look 1950’s style.”
Joanne, Make-up Artist: “I had the pleasure of doing the make up for this 1950s inspired photo shoot. To create the desired look, I used an airbrush system to apply the foundation to ensure a flawless finish. It is extremely long lasting, while still feeling weightless on the skin. In addition, it photographs beautifully, making it an extremely popular choice for brides.”
“A bride, should look like a better version of herself on her wedding day. Trend based make up and looks that will date, should be avoided. Keeping this in mind, I opted for a timeless classic look, which will never go out of fashion. This was loosely based on style icons of the 1950s . For the first look, I used brown and pink tones on the eyes, with some classic black eyeliner. l completed the look with pink blush and some subtle pink toned lipstick.”
“A 1950s themed shoot would not be complete without some red lipstick. This is a perfect way to change your look to a more dramatic one for the evening celebration of your wedding. Along with the red lipstick I added just a little more dark eyeshadow under the eyes. Red lipstick can be high maintenance for a bride all day, so this is a great way to incorporate it into your wedding for the party/night time look.”
Danielle, Model: “I really enjoyed working on this shoot. I’ve only been to Galway a handful of times. I’m from Dublin myself, and to see a place as beautiful and atmospheric as Glenlo Abbey on such a gorgeous sunny day with its ornate decor and breathtaking gardens, it was everything I would like my own wedding to be. I had a lot of fun working on this shoot. Between being beautified and pampered by the lovely Joanne, being dressed head to toe in vintage inspired glamour by Olina Bridal, having stunning brooch bouquets to add some sparkle, and trying out all kinds of poses with the wonderful Danielle Lorenzi of Sweet Memories Photography. I’m a soon to be bride myself, and for any bride in search of a dynamic bridal team, I really can’t imagine a more fabulous group of people to make your big day the most beautiful day of your life.”
A huge thanks again to the fantastic team who made this stunning styled shoot and shared it with us.
