It’s not every day we find amazing wedding photographers. But when we do, we like to hunt them down and attack them with an array of questions. Most photographers run away screaming but fortunately for us, Elisha was kind enough to give us 5 minutes of her time for a quick fire question session!
We love your wedding photos! What made you get in to photography?
Thank you! Growing up, I was always sketching and painting. After school in 2001 I went on to do an Art foundation course which involved doing various Artistic subjects including photography. It was there I fell in love with it and went on to do a BA in it and the passion grew from there.
What’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day when not doing a shoot involves, editing photos, admin work, creating blogs, answering emails and all the fun day to day things involved in running a business from home 😉
What’s your favourite part of the wedding day to photograph?
Definitely the bride prep. There’s so much going on. So many opportunities to capture beautiful moments between family and friends as well as details. I absolutely love seeing the fathers face when he sees his daughter for the first time in her dress. Priceless.
What inspires you?
It varies. It could be watching a tv show, walking through the city or browsing online. There’s so many amazingly talented artists to see online in photography, art and design and then theres Pinterest…!
What’s your wedding pet peeve?
Well, it has to be when too many guests with cameras interrupt a good shot. For example when the bride and groom are coming down the aisle, some people tend to stand in the aisle blocking the couple or use pop up flashes which could ruin some of my shots.
Favourite thing to do when you’re not snapping photos?
Go somewhere relaxing and peaceful like a park or by the sea or go to my favourite local cafe. I’m all about the downtime 🙂
What’s the most interesting or quirky shoot you’ve done recently?
Nothing overly quirky but I’m very lucky to get so many lovely, relaxed and down to earth people to capture. I sometimes shoot items for local business ladies who produce quirky products like http://caketoppercompany.ie/.
Some couples hate having their photo taken! Any tips for a good couple photo?
So true! I usually recommend an engagement shoot to rehearse so to speak. That way, on the day, they know what to expect. If that doesn’t happen, then I just guide them into it slowly with some light direction. After a few mins they usually relax into it.
A good couple photo comes from a photographer who can direct well and It’s team work really. If you want to have photos like the ones you admire from your photographer then you need to work with your photographer and trust in their vision, so relax, have fun and enjoy yourselves!
Trapped on an island and you can only bring three pieces of equipment, what are they?
Equipment? My DSLR, iPhone. I could take photos and edit in phone 😉 and my laptop.
Lastly, any advice for couples on their big day?
Like what most people say, just enjoy it! It flies by and how often do you get to celebrate a day with all your closest family and friends in the one place? Don’t fret the little things, It’ll be amazing!
Thanks again to Elisha Clarke for taking a few minutes to answer our questions. We are in love with her and her photos, she’s really amazing!!
