7 Memorable Ways to End Your Reception

Brides are always concerned about throwing the perfect ceremony and the best reception. There are many hours of detailed planning that go into setting up both of those things, but the end of the reception is something that can get lost in the details.

At the end of the night, it won’t feel right to say goodbye to your guests one by one and leave once your venue has emptied. Instead, every bride should consider how her reception will end, so you can celebrate your big day one last time as you head out the door.

Check out these seven memorable ways to end your reception so all the work is taken out of this part of your planning. Choose something simple or elaborate, depending on the feel of your wedding. You’ll be glad you planned this extra step when you get to celebrate at the end of your reception.

1. Set Off Fireworks

If your venue has a lake in the background, you can end your evening with fireworks. See if there are any companies around your venue that will handle the fireworks for you or hire someone to set them off as planned. They’ll create a beautiful backdrop for a few last-minute pictures and are a classic way to celebrate an event.

One thing to note is that it may not be legal to purchase fireworks in some states. Check your state’s laws regarding the purchase and use of fireworks before buying any.

2. Perform a Song

Many newly married couples do something together at their reception beyond cutting their cake. Find a song you both enjoy and consider performing it at the end of your reception. It’s a touching way to say that you love each other in a way that isn’t super traditional.

3. Enjoy a Last Dance

There will be plenty of dancing to enjoy at your reception, but you can always add a last dance to the end of your night. Work with a choreographer and make it a big dance or have a slow dance as a calm way to end your night.

4. Light Up Some Sparklers

At the end of your reception, pass out sparklers to your guests and have them lit before you and your spouse make your big exit. Sparkers are affordable and you can buy them in bulk, so there are plenty to light up your exit and create a gorgeous glow in your pictures.

5. Bring Out the Bubble Wands

Bubbles are another great option for brides on a budget. If you package them individually, they double as wedding favors that guests can take home with them. Have your guests blow bubbles over you as you leave your venue and play around with the size of the bubbles to see which you like best.

6. Hand Out Flower Petals

Traditionally, rice is thrown over the newly married couple as they leave their venue, but some brides worry about the rice getting caught in their hair and clothing. Switch out the rice with flower petals for a softer, more colourful option. You can use petals from the flowers at your reception or get different ones that match your colour scheme.

7. Head to a Bar

You may not feel comfortable with being the centre of attention and would prefer to have a casual exit. At the end of your reception, ask your guests to meet you at a nearby bar if they’d like so you can keep the party going in a more casual setting. That way, the reception exit isn’t a big event and everyone can leave when they’d like from the bar later on.

Do What Feels Right

The best and most memorable way to end your reception will be whatever feels right for you and your future spouse. Light up sparklers to add a bit of magic to your exit or enjoy one last slow dance before you leave. Whatever you end up choosing will be the best choice because it feels authentic to you and your relationship with your fiance.
