9 Questions For Ria, From Say I Do Bridal Boutique

1. I love lace Ria and I have an idea that you do too. Is that true?

Yes, I love lace!
Alot of our gowns at Say I Do are lace, of different kinds. The main designers we stock are Pronovias, San Patrick, Jesus Peiro, Paloma Blancaand most recently Lizzie Agnew. San Patrick and Pronovias feature some stunning lace and detail.

2. Why a wedding boutique for a career?

I have always been interested in weddings, even growing up I was always fasicinated by them. I did a business degree in college and after working in industry for a few years I decided I would like to be my own boss. This way I could use my skills working in an industry I love. I have been in business 9 years and have loved every minute of it. I am privileged to work with people during a very special time in their lives. We work by appointment only ,this gives us time to dedicate exclusively to one bride at a time. We get to know each other very well from the time they pick out their dream dress until they take it home with them.

3. Sleeping, horse riding or a book in a hammock? Tell us about your afternoon whimsies.

I have 2 small children and I love nothing more than playing on the beach or on the swings with them. They are great to come home to in the evening and they always help me unwind. We are heading away on a family holiday soon and I can’t wait to unwind in the sun and in the pool, and stroll along the beach eating ice lollies. Of course a book in a hammock is my ideal switch off if I am lucky enough to find the time. One can dream.

4. I drink Earl Grey Tea and sometimes I fancy I cup of milky Rooibos. What is your flavour?

Coffee Coffee Coffee. I couldn’t live without it!

5. Tell us about your childhood, especially your favourite memories.

I grew up on a farm in Tipperary with three brothers and a sister. I had a wonderful childhood roaming through cornfields and playing in hay barns. Summers seem to go on forever when I was young and there was definitely more sunshine! Although I am living in Cork almost fifteen years I still love going back to my roots as often as possible.

6. What makes you laugh inside that boutique of yours?

My 2 assistants Emer and Lorriane are great; we have a very open relationship and often share a giggle and it’s often over something small!

7. What is the most awkward situation you have had to deal with in your shop?

I suppose the most awkward situation was a few years back when a bride had her dress chosen and brought in her bridesmaid to show it to her. The bridesmaid was on her mobile, checking her text messages etc and we could tell that she really was not that interested. We felt terrible for the bride; who was clearly upset. But we still cracked open the bubbly and made sure that the bride left our shop beaming with joy!

8. What makes you feel truly content inside?

I have 2 answers to this that pop into my head immediately. I love looking at my kids sleeping at night, all snuggled up in bed exhausted after their day. Also, opening the post at Say I Do and finding a beautiful thank you card from a recent bride on her wedding day. We never get to see the bride on her big day so we love to see pictures afterwards.

9. When does a bride look her most beautiful to you?

When a bride comes out of the changing room and sees her reflection in the mirror and she knows that that dress is the one – the look on her face at that moment is very special and to me she is at her most beautiful then.
