Aisling and Eamon broke all the wedding traditions when they were married on Valentine’s Day this year.
From adventurous food to a surprise dress and a defiant proposal, this couple’s wedding at The Great Northern Hotel was a spectacular event.
Angry dusk skies and a dramatic cliff-side backdrop at Bundoran Co. Donegal enabled their photographer Fergal McGrath to capture some truly unique shots.
These best friends got engaged two years to the day before their nuptials. It’s easy to see from their laughter and constant beaming smiles throughout the day that their love has grown as the years went on.
The couple were jetting off to Rome on a mini break for Valentine’s Day 2013 when Eamon popped the question. After a lot of slagging and teasing from family and friends, he defied their claims that he would propose abroad by getting down on one knee at Dublin Airport.
In front of everyone as they were about to board their flight!
“It was very embarrassing but extremely fun. We got a massive cheer and clap from all the passengers on our flight!”
During their two-year trip down the aisle Aisling decided to be a daring bride by opting for a completely different dress that would blow everyone away. And the blushing bride looked delicately pretty in her gorgeous lace gown to match the couple’s vintage themed wedding plan and invitations.
“Well the dress as you can see for yourself, it’s blue!! I debated this for a long time but in the end I decided that I wanted to be different and I’m glad I did as no one expected it and it was a nice surprise. I got it in a bridal shop in Dromahair Loves Legacy Bridal. Nicola McHugh was so lovely to deal with.”
Following their traditional church ceremony, the pair kicked off their celebrations in true style with a trip to the local pub Finn McCools. Owner Mags rolled out the red carpet specially for the newly-weds with plenty of bubbles to go around.
Choosing The Great Northern Hotel as their wedding venue came easy to these lovebirds who praised its amazing location and stunning views.
“Our Wedding Planner Karen McEniff was hands down the most helpful and amazing wedding planner you could ask for. She is friendly, efficient and so accommodating.”
“There was no question about booking Fergal as our photographer. He is the best around I had seen his work on Facebook. He also photographed a friend’s wedding and completely outdid himself. That was the icing on the cake for me.”
“We steered away from traditional foods like beef or turkey and ham. Eamon and I are quite adventurous with our food so we went with a fish cake to start along with a smoked chicken salad. And for main we chose salmon with a lobster sauce and stuffed Leg of chicken with a red wine bisque.”
As if a blue wedding dress wasn’t enough of a surprise, the couple wowed their guests with a night of entertainment that really captured the spirit of this vibrant pair.
“We had a fantastic band, a black jack and roulette table and a photo booth. The poker tables from Shane Heraghty’s Crazy Vegas Fun Casino went down a storm!”
Glowing Aisling and Eamon twirled the dance floor to Rod Stewart’s You’re In My Heart with their adorable daughter Hannah. The night was topped off with a vivid display of sparklers leaving the team here at WeddingDates HQ wishing we were at this magical affair!
