Bridal Story: The Wedding Dress

Bridal Story: The Wedding Dress

This week’s Bridal Story comes from bride-to-be Stacey. We were blown away by her story and loved her idea of what she is planning to do with her dress after…

I’m a fairly laid back person and when I say fairly I am being good to myself. A few comments that would have been said to me over the years would be ” if you were any more laid back you would be going backwards” and ” there would want to be a fire under you to make you jump”!

So, I took on the same personality trait and frame of mind when it came to getting my wedding dress. From the month we set the date, I had my mom and sisters on the phone every few days “look at this dress, go on this web site” and finally, when I was in Limerick my hometown (I’m an honorary Kerry woman now!) there happened to be a closing down sale from a bridal boutique in Mayo on the in the Strand hotel just up the road from my parents house.

So myself, three of my bridesmaids (I have five) and my mom all strolled up the road to the hotel. Madness was the only word I could use on the site we witnessed when we walked through the doors. Women all fussing and flapping about the place like head-less chickens! I didn’t like it and turned to go but felt the strong pull of my four ladies getting me back. After about five failed attempts of finding the dress and me feeling like an elephant the lovely shop owner came out took one look at me and pulled a dress from the rack. It didn’t grab my attention on the hanger but the minute I took a look at myself in the mirror I knew that was that wedding dress shopping over!

The look of my dress is “red carpet” as the saleswoman put it. It is clean cut, simple with a little bit of bling around the bust. It’s just what I like as I was never into big princess dresses. The best part of all was it was reduced to less than half price I got it for €600 and that is brilliant for a Maggie Sottero dress!

It took me one dress shop to find it. I had the doubts of ‘what if I see a different dress that I fall in love with?’ so I just never looked anymore and have only tried it on twice since I bought it, so as not to let the novelty wear off.

After the wedding, I’m going to donate my dress to an S.V.P wedding dress shop. It will help a great cause and make a new bride feel stunning. I don’t see the point in keeping it in a wardrobe to look at once every few years. My biggest challenge in finding a dress something different to the ‘run of the mill’ wedding dress and I found that in the simplicity of my dress. My laid back nature paid off for me in this case!
