Pretty much a favourite for most brides planning their wedding has to be the wedding dress. When it boils down to it all, the wedding really is an excuse to wear the nicest dress you will ever own! Okay, that may be a generalization, but we do get pretty excited when we see a beautiful dress (no matter our marital status) in this office! If you’re on the search for your dream gown, here’s what you need to know before buying your wedding dress.
Only Bring Someone You Trust – Whether it’s your sister, mom, BFF since you were five; we’ve all got a trusted confidant. Keep the guest list short, as you could get too many opinions at once.
Do Your Homework – It’s all about the research. Look at what dresses you’ve loved on you in the past… Do they all have a similar fit? And of course, Pinterest is a great place to start!
The Early Bird… Starting soon will give you a good chance to look around for a dress panic free. Most bridal shops recommend 6-8 months to allow for fittings. And we have to agree that any longer than that and you will be running the risk of having second thoughts on the gown.
Sale Season – There is absolutely no harm in looking around for sale seasons. In America, that typically happens around Black Friday, so if you’re brave enough, you could try online (or in person!). Alternatively, plenty of bridal boutiques will have sample sales throughout the year (especially in big cities). Keep a look out on Twitter for any #samplesale tagged tweets!
Know Your Spend – Crucial if you want your dream dress (and wedding). Know what you can spend before even looking at gowns… Looking at anything above your budget will just depress you! Besides, there are plenty of gorgeous gowns to be found at any price range.
Pack Some Essentials – Trying on dresses may not seem like a tough gig… But it is! Be sure to pack some water and crackers for when you get hungry (nothing messy that can stain). As well, bring a pair of heels and a hair tie (in case you want to do an up-do on the day). Wear or bring a strapless bra just in case you want to try a strapless dress on. And remember to go light with you make-up… Getting stains on a couture gown is a big no-no!!
