A candy buffet is a great way to treat your guests, while enjoying some delicious retro sweets and goodies! Lisa’s Candyland can make you a custom candy buffet to suit your chosen wedding theme or colours. My favourite has to be the Tiffany themed candy buffet you can see above! Check out my interview below with Lisa where she shares her favourite sweet choices and how she stumbled about starting her own business!
1. Hi Lisa, candy buffets have become huge in the last number of years. Why do you think wedding couples enjoy having them as part of their wedding?
I feel everyone wants their wedding wants to be different and give their family and friends a surprise they won’t forget. With our Candy tables and Candycart it is not just a sweet table, it becomes more of a centrepiece and decoration. Instead of having one chocolate on a table like a traditional wedding favour, it allows your guests go back to their childhood.
2. Can wedding couples choose what retro sweets are included in their buffet?
Oh yes I provide a list of sweeties from fizzy jellies to hard-boiled sweets to chocolates. You can include sweets that your bridesmaids, flower girl, page boy or mother-in-law loves. We can always put personalised labels on our candy jars such as “Flower Girl Lilly’s Favourite Marshmallows. Don’t Touch”
3. What is your favourite sweet that you carry?
Our favourite sweet that Lisa’s Candyland offers are our handmade lollipops that are exclusive to us, these can be custom coloured so they can match the bridesmaid’s colour, and the flavour can be changed from peppermint to strawberry. Thy can be put on our candy cart/table or used as wedding favours with custom labels with the bride and groom names on them. They are made with no preservatives or additives. We are proud to support Irish artisans who uphold the good old production values of putting excellent quality over maximum quantity.
4. Can you design the candy buffet to tie in with a wedding theme?
Oh yes we try to make every details to match the Wedding theme. From sweet choices, handmade lollipops, tables cloths, table skirts, labels, ribbons, and candy bags. We would normally take a small sample of the material so we can match the candy table/candy cart. From themed to butterflies, roses or colours it is not a problem.
5. Where did the idea of starting a candy business come from?
It started off with my own wedding, where I did my first candy tables for my family over 3 years ago. I made all the wedding party come help decorate my sweet table at 2am in the morning before my wedding day……..yes madness. Everyone loved it so before I knew it people was asking me to do birthday parties, weddings or christenings while I was still college. As a business project in CIT on my final year I said why not do this business idea, nothing related to Tourism…Ooops!
6. What has been your favourite wedding you have worked with?
I really love the Tiffany Candy Buffet theme for a wedding. It can be so elegant and luxurious, everything is matched and really will WOW your guests. It’s my favourite as I love cupcakes too. We do mini cupcakes or normal size. The Tiffany cupcakes are amazing and even the hardboiled sweets are made tiffany colour for the wedding day. Which we only offer in this service.
7. What do you like to do in your spare time?
At the moment we are trying to make a new wedding candy cart and kids candy cart for small parties like Communion/ Confirmations that will be on display in Red Balloon in Ballincollig. I have two little boys, one is four and other one 22 months old. So we are normally at the park, Fota or going to see Wreck-It Ralph!
8. If you could travel to anywhere in the world where would it be?
I would love to go to Tokyo, have you seen their street fashion .Then I would eat in the Alice in Wonderland Restaurant “we’re all mad here”.
Lisa’s Candyland was founded by Lisa Roche, after she created a candy buffet for her own wedding and discovered how much delight and excitement it caused. It quickly grew from a hobby into a business. She has a degree in business and tourism from CIT, but her true love is designing gorgeous and unforgettable sweets arrays that are as good to look at as they are to eat. They can set up in your home, venue or hotel wearing cute Candy Style Aprons. Let Lisa’s Candyland create an incredible edible prop unlike anything you’ve ever seen!
