When it comes to choosing your bridesmaid outfits, this can be quite a difficult task. If you’re like us, you may not be a natural Gok Wan. Sure, you’ve managed to figure out what looks well on your body, but how are you expected to style girls with all different shapes and sizes? Not to mention personal styles, skin tones, hairstyles…
Well fear not! Here are some basics to choosing your bridesmaid outfits.
What’s you’re theme? Are you going for a rustic chic look? Maybe you’re more of a timeless elegant kind of bride. Either way, your dresses should reflect your chosen style and ideas.
With colour, if your girls go from bronzed beauties to porcelain doll in skin tone, then neutral colours or tonal versions of colours will work best. Greys, black, cream, nude are usually mutual winners here.
Remember, there’s no rule that says EVERY bridesmaid must wear the same dress. In fact mismatched dresses are more and more popular for this reason. Be open minded and make sure each dress has a common denominator. Either the same shade, fabric or style is ideal. Many stores carry ‘multi-wear’ dresses that allow you to style different dresses.
Let your bridesmaids choose from a choice of preselected dresses put together in a Pinterest board. Each bridesmaid can comment when they’ve picked out their dress.
And remember accessories! Again, these need to complement the outfit and skin tone of your bridal party. But if you purchase neutral pieces that are identical, it will unify your bridesmaid look as a whole piece. Why not offer these as wedding favours to your favourite ladies? They’ll be thrilled!
