An intimate wedding set in the heart of Dublin City, with an ode to all things Irish. Elly and Ben wanted to pay tribute to the magical country that marked the beginning of their love story. Evoking a sense of Irish romanticism, the pair took a stroll along the harbour at Dún Laoghaire before stopping for a mandatory 99 ice-cream cone to mark their special day. Afterwards, they celebrated into the night with trad music and Irish dancers showcasing the Emerald Isle to their family and friends.
From Russia came a sentimental token. Elly’s grandparents were happily married for 60 years, and when her grandfather sadly passed away, her grandmother passed down their wedding rings to Elly and Ben.
And who could forget the newlywed’s very special plus one!? Their puppy Squeeze made an appearance in their family photographs, nearly eating the bride’s bouquet with sheer excitement!
The Beginning
“About four years ago, I was living in Moscow and working for Kerrygold. I was sent to Dublin with work and one night my team took me to Slattery’s Pub. Ben is from Liverpool and was working for Google at the time and we met that night at the pub. I moved here with work after that trip and met up with Ben again when I returned. We went to Slattery’s on our first date and then he brought me to Google to show me around his office. I love all that tech stuff so it was the perfect first date!”
The Proposal
“One morning we were having breakfast before he left to go to London for work, he travelled a lot and I was sad that he was leaving. But he said ‘we’ll just have to get married so you can travel with me all the time’. At first I thought he might be joking but I knew he was serious so I said ‘yes, let’s get married’. Just like that, we were engaged!”
The Photographer
“Our photographer Emma of Emma May Photography understood exactly what we wanted straight away, we didn’t want anything cheesy or stereotypical and were really happy that she understood what we were looking for. The thing that stuck out for me was that she was really organised and even visited Teddy’s Ice Cream to check if we could take photos there, that made me feel like I definitely made the right decision.”
“The most special moment of the day was walking down the aisle and catching Ben’s eye for the first time. With all the nerves and emotions and my family being there it was definitely the most epic experience of the whole day.”
The Venue
“For us the location was really important. So The Arlington was perfect as it is in the centre of Dublin City. Since 99% of our guests weren’t Irish, we wanted to have somewhere with a traditional Irish atmosphere that our close friends and family could enjoy. We had a traditional band play and Irish dancing that everyone really enjoyed. We wanted to give credit to Ireland for bringing us together so we really wanted some Irish elements incorporated into our wedding.”
“The Arlington were great at having everything organised so well for us, it was a really intimate wedding party and the staff made us feel really welcome. They did such a great job at taking care of us and our guests.”
