Wedding Planning: Food and Desserts

Food, glorious Food!

The food at your wedding makes up a large percentage of your wedding costs. Wedding guests will look forward to the meal and remember it for a long time afterwards.

With a variety of guests come a variety of tastes, and pleasing everyone is practically impossible. Do not plan your meal around one relative! Just because aunty Mary doesn’t eat fish doesn’t meant that you can’t have fish on the menu!

A sit down dinner is the traditional Irish wedding meal, as we all know.
However there are so many more options to consider:

• A finger buffet – perfect for a more casual wedding where your guests help themselves to a buffet of small food items, take a seat and enjoy the food, with their fingers!
• A fork buffet – this is a buffet where guests help themselves to the buffet table and then take a seat and eat with cutlery! Food can be hot or cold.
• A BBQ – again, perfect for a more casual affair.

The costs involved when it come to a wedding meal usually depend on the amount of choices you have and how extravagant you would like to be. Speak to your caterers or the chef at the hotel. They will guide you in terms of seasonal produce and will give you advice based on the number of guests and your preferences.

If you need to hire a caterer you have to consider Eunice Power Catering as it is one of Ireland’s leading caterers. Simply brilliant!

For your post wedding celebrations Gubeen provides a Pig on A Spit. As well as the pig, Gubeen provide a selection of food including salamis, hams, and bacon.

Dessert is often the part of the meal guests most look forward to. I know I do. There are so many lovely things to think about when it comes to desserts! Consider these options:

  • Have you thought about having a dessert buffet? A huge talking point at weddings!
  • Have you considered using your wedding cake as dessert? Just make sure the wedding cake you have in mind is suitable for this and also check with your caterer or hotel.
  • A beautiful and popular trend at the moment is the wedding cake display table whereby candles, macaroons, cake lollipops, mini desserts and your wedding cake are displayed on a large table.

The Sweet and Saucy Shop is a wonderful website for inspiration. Warning – this will make you hungry!

So much food, so any choices. Heaven!
