Food is Love

by Samantha Chirico

I’m offering this simple phrase to all the brides-to-be; Think Outside the Box. To say the least, 2014 has truly been a year of trendy weddings. In fact, it is the whopping, spectacular and dramatic food presentations that are giving weddings a legit “flavoursome” flare. Although your classic sit down dinner menus are a timeless tradition in weddings, bride and grooms are shifting to more trendier, memorable and creative ideas for their wedding bill of fare.

A wedding is a grand celebration, and whether yours is big, small, a formal affair or a “Do It Yourself,” it is essential that your wedding characterizes you and your other half. This includes everything from the invitations to the flowers, to the music and especially to what is on Carte du jour. “Food is love” as the saying goes, and to say the very least, your guest will be sure to love all these unique, out of the box ideas to chow down in style.

Nostalgic Nibbles

Savoring happy memories and making new ones are what weddings are all about. Recreating the food that you and your groom once enjoyed as children and reinventing them into classic dishes is one food fad that is trending this year. Classic fish and chips to mini mac and cheese hors d’ oeuvre or the ever classic bedtime milk and cookies, these childhood cuisines are sure to be a hit amongst guests alike. Incorporating the good old days into your wedding day will guarantee a room full of smiles and cheers!

Interactive Food Bars

Playing with food has never been more fun. Interactive food bars have become a new craze of presenting and serving meals that caters to every kind of eater. The use of food bars allows each guest to customize your wedding menu selections to their tastes. The option of food bars are endless, from Mashed Potato Bar, serving mashed potatoes in martini glasses and allowing each guest to pick their ingredients (bacon, cheese, etc) to a Pizza Bar, having personal heart shaped dough and allowing guests to choose their own toppings, are ingenious ideas to serve your wedding menu. And lets not forget the dessert bars, from personalized ice cream flavours and sprinkles to old fashion popcorn stands that offer buttery, sweet or spicy selections.  Now there is some food for thought!

 Brides who Brunch

Whoever said that weddings were just for the moon? Today, morning weddings are becoming more popular. Not only are they more cost efficient, but you get to serve a beautiful brunch spread and let’s face it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! This is also another great way to tie in food bars, from pancake or waffle bars, omelet stations to creating your own Mimosa or Bloody Mary’s. Brunch weddings offer brides an affordable, intimate and distinctively stylized occasion that presents their guests with a unique experience. Let’s give a round of applause for coffee and crosswords instead of cabernet and candlelight!

Family Style

Being brought up in a large Italian household meant one thing: Family Dinners. The sound of listening to everyone talking around the table is personal music to my ears. Creating this particular atmosphere at your wedding is achievable through Family Style meals. There is something about passing plates that crafts a way to start the flow of comfortable conversation. Your guests having met either moments before or knowing each other for years will enjoy this relaxed yet elegant vibe. Whether you are passing a plate of Spaghetti Bolognas or Sheppard’s Pie, the sense of community that will be created at each dinner table will be priceless.
