It’s summer time and to be honest, lately, all we can think about it is food! Maybe it’s because when we get older, there is just something about food and sharing it with others that makes it more of an enjoyable experience. Weddings are definitely an experience we would include here! Wedding favours are just one part of the day that your guests get to share. We’ve caught up with the fantastic Gail of LizzieMay’s who is giving us her favourite tips when it comes to fun wedding favours!
Wedding favours are a really fun way of showing off your personality as a couple. My speciality is hand decorated cookies and they are so perfect as favours, all custom designed to fit in perfectly to a couple’s special day – I’ll cookie anything! Couples always give me an idea of what their day will be like, whether it’s rustic and relaxed or chic and sophisticated, and most often leave it to me to come up with some design ideas – the invitations are often a great source of inspiration and I love picking out one or two elements to help create the perfect favour. One lovely couple ordered a cookie with each guest’s name in the style of their invitation to use as placeholders, very striking and so personal. One of my couples has ordered moustache and lips cookies on sticks as favours for their wedding later this year – they will be so much fun and I’d love to see the photos afterwards!
I particularly love making character cookies – I’ve cookied all sorts from Hello Kitty to Star Wars! I really enjoy recreating something that is particularly familiar to people, be it a favourite cartoon character or a logo. It is quite a challenge to get it just right but it keeps me on my toes. My favourites change all the time, but I thoroughly enjoyed making some Mickey and Minnie Mouse cookies recently. My biggest challenges so far have been a request for a combined county crest cookie for a couple from Cork and Galway, and a request for bridges of the world – I got there in the end!
Summer time can bring about a lot of fun (when it comes to food) in weddings! For savoury summer food, it’s got to be sweet, sticky, smoky ribs from the barbecue served with my favourite cucumber pickle…. YUM!! For something sweet, I would have to say ice cream is a must – a ’99 always feels like a great summer treat and brings everyone fond summer memories.
