There are many things to consider on your wedding day, are the flowers going to arrive, are you going to get down the aisle without tripping? It is a magical day, but it can be fraught if you haven’t considered all the eventualities. One of those is what are your family members, bridesmaids and flower girls going to wear. Getting your family dressed for the wedding is one of the trickier parts to planning your day, but trust me, once you have found all the outfits and matched them to your personality then you will be pleasantly surprised at how smooth your day can be! So let’s start with the children and work our way up.
Babies, Flower Girls and Page Boys
No wedding is complete without smart suits and there is no reason that these can’t be utilised for the smaller members of your bridal party. As with any suit, these can be interlinked with fun shirts and tiny ties of your chosen colours. Start with the simple suit and work from there. Littlewoods Child and Baby range is great for younger Page boys/ushers. Classic tailoring just on a miniature scale…. adorable!
This set starts at 0-3 months and works all the way up to age 7, so if you have multiple ushers, they can all wear the same outfit. You can then pick the shirts, ties and shoes to link into your colour schemes and the overall style of your wedding.
For flower girls, the same rules apply, but one difference is that they can also wear white. Your older bridesmaids will most likely be wearing a contrasting colour to your dress, so why not have the younger children’s outfits tie in the two. This striped organza dress is the perfect accompaniment to most wedding styles, will be smart enough for occasions after the wedding and ultimately, it will make them feel like a princess. Again, this dress comes in age ranges of 0 – 12 years old, which is great for younger bridesmaids, flower girls and any babies that will be joining you on the aisle. You can also add some jazz to this dress with some bright flowers and shoes.
Bridesmaids
The older members of the wedding party are more troublesome to cater for. This comes down to two points; firstly you will want everyone to be comfortable in what they are wearing. Secondly, when you are spending large amounts of money, you will want to be sure that they will wear the outfit again to make sure they get the most from it. This is where you need to be really careful as to the dresses you buy.
As a rule, most bridesmaids’ dresses are brought to match the colour of the flowers and accents throughout the wedding. This season’s ultimate bridesmaids’ dresses are in pastel shades, so this is where I shall start. This pastel lavender dress is one that shouldn’t be missed. It is simple enough for the wearers to be able to add their own personality to it and the cut will flatter many shapes. The length is not too short, with the simple ribbon belt adding in some subtle styling. This is a great choice for a summer wedding, or even a wedding abroad as it will be cool enough to wear in foreign climes.
If you are looking for something a little different, then nothing works better than a pattern. Patterns are not the most obvious choice for bridesmaids, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t work, set against your dress and we also live in a world where weddings can be tailored exactly to you. This is a great example of how you can take a smart dress, with a beautifully whimsical pattern and use it as a bridesmaid dress. The style will suit the majority of figures and when there are a few ladies wearing the same dress, they will look stunning against your bridal gown.
The main point to remember if you are picking bridesmaids dresses that match, is to make sure you go somewhere that offers a wide range of sizes and lengths.
