Happy Honeymoon! Preparation is Key

Holiday departures are now in full swing (yay!), but while you are away, do you look after your skin? Here are some great travel treats to help you keep your skin in great condition while you travel without breaking the baggage allowance…

Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful make up kit – (Brown Thomas €75) contains pretty much everything you need in your make-up essentials for when you jet off. It features Bobbi’s picks for eyes in a quad compact, containing Ivory Eye Shadow, Chiffon Sparkle Eye Shadow, Seashell Metallic Eye Shadow and Rich Caviar Eye Shadow. For standout definition, there’s Blackest Black Ink Liner and a mini Everything Mascara. Add soft color to cheeks with Maui blush/bronzer and a mini Face Blender Brush. The limited edition Air Kiss Tube Tint finishes the look. This really has everything to bring out the best in you, without having to carry a lot of make-palettes and containers.

Next, Shiseido’s Sun Liquid foundation in an SPF 30, or the compact version is just perfect to take with you. Not only will it protect your face with sunscreen but it will also double up as your foundation. And, it’s sweat and water resistant which is perfect for the pool.

For cleansing, ditch the nasty cleansing wipes and opt instead for Clarins travel size eye make-up remover, cleansers and toners in carry on sizes. Clinique have their award winning three step in minis also. These are the perfect travel companions. Do not compromise on your skincare while you sun yourself. They have a moisture surge spray too, that can keep you hydrated in the sun and on the balmy evenings. And, depending on where you holiday, you may be able to find the same products at better prices or even products that are normally hard to find at home. But beware of counterfeited products! If in doubt, wait until you get to duty free or a reputable store you recognise!

Aveda do amazing mini shampoos and conditioners that are great for keeping your hair maintained. Some of their newest ranges are available in these small sizes even their super hold hairspray. It really is just as important to protect your hair as well as your skin. I collect sachets if conditioning treatments to keep my locks luscious on holidays and when on Honeymoon this is equally important! If possible, try to let your hair dry naturally and avoid as little treatments before hand, such as dying or perms.

Penhaligons is a range exclusive to Brown Thomas that do a small atomizer which you can put your own fragrance into and you can fit three weeks fragrance into it. The best part? It retails at just €15! I love the idea of putting your wedding day scent into it too, so your honeymoon can keep this scent and the happy memories that you will have from it. I’ve spent ages looking for one of these, as perfume can be quite weighty and risky to pack.

Molton Brown sell excellent travel kits too, some of them unisex so they will half the amount of product needed. With this in mind, have a chat with your new spouse (don’t you just love saying that?) and see is they are agreeable to sharing some toiletries. If you are going to a swanky resort, they might even have exclusive toiletries in the bathroom.

Boots Soltan have a full range of SPFs in a handy clear bag for €19.99, this includes an after-sun too. There is a kids SPF 50, a 30 and a 15 in this, all cream product but they are not carry on sizes. Boots also do handy little travel pots so you could bring some of your scented body cream or exfoliator with you so you don’t need to bulk out your suitcase when you might only be away for a few weeks. You can also get mini essentials like toothpaste, mouthwash and deodorant and regularly do 3 for 2 offers on these!
