We have been hearing about kettlebells every where lately. And if you’re wondering what exactly they are, you’re not alone in that thought.
Kettlebells are a form of strength building equipment that has been around for decades but has only recently caught the attention of mainstream athletes in the last few years. They’re basically a bowling ball-sized cast iron weight with a looped handle on the top. They range from 2 to a 100 pounds and are very common strength training aids in Eastern Europe.
Well, what’s so great about kettlebells then you ask? Well, first of all, it requires whole body fitness in it’s most basic form of training. Kettlebells require a persons entire body, especially the core, to contract as a group forcing that person to build strength and stability at the same time.
The best thing about kettlebells is that you can do it outside (weather permitting!) if you’re something different! Summer is probably the best time to get involved in sports activities purely for that! Basic kettlebell exercises involve kettlebells that weigh 12 – 25 pounds, so that the weight is heavy enough to fully engage the hamstrings.
If you’re looking to start kettlebell training and maximize your workout, get personal instruction from a trainer or coach who has experience.
