Raquel and Conor’s Christmas celebration was full of cheeky poses and laughter – and they were the first eco-friendly wedding party at Hotel Doolin!
From the moment we saw these pictures of Raquel and Conor’s big day – we just couldn’t help but fall in love with these rascals! Their sheer joy and fun characters jumped out in each shot, and we bet the craic at this wedding was mighty altogether! Even the rain couldn’t dampen their spirits as Raquel donned a pair of funky wellies as she twirled around in her flirty tea-length dress with the romantic backdrop of The Wild Atlantic Way behind them.
After meeting at a wedding years earlier, they finally got together and began their own love story in 2005. Each year they visit their pal Kitty for a holiday in Malaga, affectionately calling themselves the Three Amigos. It was here in 2015, where Conor planned a secret proposal – which ended with a hilarious twist!
“While having breakfast in front of the beach, Conor told me he had booked us a day trip to Granada from Malaga. I thought this was quite strange as he is not exactly the organizing half of our relationship! I went along with it anyway and was quite shocked to learn he had booked us a beautiful old style hotel in front of La Alhambra. I had told Conor several times over our years together that La Alhambra is the most romantic place in the world!! As we had woken up a little hungover on the day of our trip, I had not packed appropriately and arriving to Granada I realised it was way too cold for the summer dress I had on. The only item of clothing I could put on were my pyjama bottoms! So, unaware of the important moment coming ahead that’s what I put on!! We walked around La Alhambra and while sitting on a bench looking down to the beautiful city of Granada, Conor gave me the most beautiful engagement ring, needless to say the answer was YES!!! Pity about the photographs…in the pyjamas!”
Everything about their special day was chilled and totally relaxed – the bride even enjoyed a glass of Dooliner Beer with her dad before walking up the aisle! But at the core of their wedding theme was a very important message – every little helps when it comes to helping the environment. They filled their ceremony and reception with eco-friendly details and opted for local suppliers.
“All food on our wedding menu came from local suppliers, reducing our carbon foot print, my dress was bought locally, same as the groom’s suit. We hired local musicians for our ceremony and arrivals reception, the photographer was local, we had no fresh flowers at all to decorate the room, instead we chose earthy items like Beachwood and potted plants as centrepieces. Our entire wedding was also paperless – the menus were written on chalk boards on each table, our invitations were funny email videos and the table plan was also a large chalk board. The only thing in my wedding that was not sourced locally was the Band, but I just HAD to have The Trips!!”
“I work in Hotel Doolin and I knew it was the only place for us. It has such a relaxed approach to weddings. The Wild Atlantic Roughness in the winter, Dooliner Beer and food from local producers made it a simple choice for us. We chose the Wild Atlantic Wedding package also which came including arrivals, music, photography on the day, wedding cake, Barn Dance the next day and many other perks, it was so easy all we had to book after this was the band and our outfits! I also wanted all my family to explore the charm of the West of Ireland. What nicer place to bring them than beside the Cliffs of Moher!”
“Olga aka Mrs RedHead Photography – she is a real artist in her field. I didn’t just want regular posing photos with friends and family, I wanted natural shots and some cheeky shots that would make us laugh in years to come. Olga produced this and much more, she was an absolute dream to work with, I didn’t even know she was there half of the time and she had fab ideas for location photos too.”
Huge thanks to Raquel and Conor for sharing their wedding with us and to their photographer Mrs Redhead Photography for allowing us to share these fabulous shots. You can see more of her work at www.mrsredhead.com
