How to Choose Your First Dance Song

How to Choose Your First Dance Song

Deciding on your first dance song can be simple for some couples who have ‘their song’ but for those who are a little undecided, it can be a lot more challenging. Plus, what if you met on the dance floor? You’re song could just as easily be a Soulja Boy classic (remember him?)!

Or, you may just have very different tastes. Maybe he’s a metal head and you love nothing more than a nice Michael Bublé song. We don’t know if a Michael and Motorhead mash-up would work, but if it doesn’t, here are some tips on choosing your first dance song:

A Song That Reminds You of Something Special

Maybe it was playing in the first movie you went to see, the first restaurant, or a concert. Any artist or song that reminds you of a fun event like a holiday is always a good starting point.

Something You Both Love

Is there a band or song that you connected over when you first met? Could be a good opportunity to get a band to cover it for your wedding!

Theme

Other ideas for choosing your song could come from a song that fits the theme of you wedding. If you’re having a retro wedding or maybe a summer festival style wedding, why not shape your music around this for atmosphere?

Fun Songs

Just because it’s your first dance, it doesn’t mean it has to be a soppy number. If you’re not into slow numbers, it’s perfectly fine to choose a fist-pumping tune! Your song should reflect your personality as a couple or how you feel about the day. Plus, it will really get the party started!

What do you think about the idea of a first dance song? Will you be skipping it altogether?
