Meet darling Kitty – an award-winning designer inspired by the moon & stars…
I am the illustrator and designer at Till Dawn Dear, a bespoke wedding stationery studio. I create whimsical romantic invitations and gifts to swoon over.
I have degrees in both Fine Art and Fashion Design and have been a freelance artist for nearly five years. During this time I have worked with some amazing brands and beautiful people such as John Rocha, Bash Magazine, Brown Thomas, Image Magazine, Selfridges and The Four Seasons. I ventured into the wonderful world of weddings when a dear friend commissioned me to paint her suite. I loved working closely with her and her fiance, painting elements from their favorite movies, their school crests, family homes and hobbies. It was beyond rewarding to bring their vision to life. I could really get a sense of how fun and special their wedding would be, the invitation really set the tone for the day. I knew from that moment that this, was something I wanted to pursue.
Trade secrets over Skype & meet for cake & wine…
My favorite part of my process is getting to know the couple, I’m a sucker for love stories and romance, it often brings a tear to my eye to hear their tale, it’s such a joy to share this with them and I feel incredibly lucky to do what I do.
In order to get to know the couple I start by asking loads of questions, their likes and dislikes, where they got engaged? Where they live? Favourite colour, favourite memory, favourite place? We trade secrets over Skype, moments over mails and pictures over pinterest or where possible, we meet for wine and cake. It’s this exclusive, intimate approach that strengthens the bond, making the end result much more personal and special. Once I’ve gathered their stories and tales, I take out my paints and begin.
This isn’t a factory line. Your wishes will be granted…
The painting stage can take anything from 4-6 weeks, depending on the project. During this process, I am available at any time to add in updates or any new ideas the couple may wish to include. It is not a factory line or a click and buy process, they are are free to change their mind. I won’t bite, it’s just me, my paints and loads of biscuits, I’m there for them whenever they need me. I truly care for each couple and I’m fully committed to their vision.
I then present the first draft, which 9.8 times out of 10 goes fantastically well with just slight changes here and there but if it’s not quite what they want, then no problem at all, it’s my job to make people happy, and happy they will be, that’s a promise!
From here all that’s left to do is to print them, I can arrange printing on the most drool worthy of papers or can advise and help source a local printer. Often, I hand embellish invitations with glitter, bows and beading, I love doing this, it’s really unusual and definitely something their guests will not have seen before but it is only possible if I print the invites local to me.
Commissioning artwork is like a journey, it’s a meeting of minds, it’s what makes it special, makes it bespoke. I know I am biased but I really believe the invitation is as important as any of the other major elements in your day. If you send a beautiful, personal piece of art, your guests will know what to expect for the day and not only that – they will treasure it as a keepsake. Till Dawn Dear is for couples and guests who appreciate and understand artistry and for those who like to be different .
