From New York City to Fota Island Resort

We may forget sometimes (because we live here), but there are parts of Ireland that are truly breathtaking. The air is different here and depending on where you are, the pace of life can be a little like stepping back in time. Only recently, have we met someone who has reminded us of how unique these little hidden gems in Ireland are. Samantha, a Wedding and Events Marketing Intern at the incredible Fota Island Resort, Cork, has also studied in New York City and Italy. We were lucky enough to meet Samantha so she could share her experiences with us…

From New York City to Fota Island Resort

Samantha, a Fashion Merchandising major at LIM College, decided Fota Island Resort would be her next step after her previous experiences of studying abroad.  “As a senior in my last semester of college, I am required to do a CoOp internship where we have the opportunity to peruse one wherever we like. Last summer I went to Italy for a study abroad program and absolutely loved it. When I heard about the internship with Fota Island Resort and the internship position to work in the Weddings and Events Department along with marketing, I immediately jumped at the opportunity.”

The Manhattan student fell in love, noting the different way of life straight away. “My favourite aspect of Fota Island is how peaceful and tranquil it is here in comparison to New York City. I am always on the go, trying to get from point A to B as fast as I can. Listening to noise that you are consistently surrounded by when living in the city, can be quite exhausting. The quietness, relaxation and slow paced lifestyle of Fota Island has been a really positive change that I hope to bring back with me when I leave. ”

Although Samantha is a Fashion Merchandising major, she was drawn to Fota Island Resort because of her love of every aspect of a wedding day. A huge part of this was because of her experience in the renowned Kleinfeld Bridal, Manhattan. “It was an amazing experience and it is where I found my passion for the bridal industry. Interning at Kleinfeld Bridal as a consultants assistant and moving on to their PR and Marketing Department definitely shaped me into being more knowledgeable for my role in weddings here at Fota Island Resort.” Samantha also notes that she learned that a positive attitude goes a long way mentioning, “it is essential that that you maintain positive qualities and enthusiasm, the job in both roles is to help make brides’ dreams come true.”

And of course, we had to ask Samantha where the best romantic spots are for couples visiting the Big Apple! “It is extremely cliché, but I really love going to the top of the Empire State Building at night. Overlooking Manhattan at night and embracing the glimmering city views with your other half, really sets the mood of romance. Central Park is another favourite place of mine. From taking a romantic carriage ride, having a picnic in the park, or walking the Brooklyn Bridge and having pizza at the famous Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, the activities are endless and are most enjoyed when experiencing them with the person you love.”

Samantha Chirico is a Weddings and Events Marketing Intern at Fota Island Resort, Cork. She possess an extreme love for the bridal industry with experience in weddings having worked with Kleinfeld Bridal, Manhattan.
