Spring has sprung (almost!) and with that comes a new collection from one of our favourite designers, Paul Costelloe. His 2014 bridal collection shows Paul’s keen eye for nostalgia inspired jewellery pieces and really has us longing for a bygone era.
We had a chance to catch up with Paul himself to discuss this gorgeous new bridal collection….
1. Your new bridal collection is inspired by Kate Middleton’s look. How did you try to encapsulate her persona? What aspects of her look were you inspired by?
Kate embodies the characteristics of understated beauty and simplicity that reflect her persona as a modern “girl next door”. I am constantly inspired by her way of embracing elegance in a “less is more” attitude, which is a truly unique method of sophistication.
2. When it comes to bridal pieces, most women want a simple and elegant look. What are the best ways to achieve this?
Simple elegance is achieved through the careful selection of quality pieces. Again, the “less is more” method comes into play when you are creating this elegant look; these pieces should be comprised of the classic elements that we all attribute to beautiful brides. One can never go wrong with a pair of pearl drop earrings, €125, an exquisite crystal tear drop pendant, €135 or a simply beautiful bracelet, €240. The new bridal jewellery 2014 collection is a really wonderful compilation of these types of pieces.
3. What vintage era have your pieces been most inspired by?
This collection is undoubtedly inspired by the 1920’s era, when femininity was being discovered in a new and exciting way. Finally, the beautiful necklines and shoulders of women of that era were revealed through the sometimes controversial fashions of the time. This allowed for a movement in jewellery design that continues to inspire my pieces today.
