Planning your wedding is often a challenge that can be underestimated. But, with the right team of experts by your side, the stress of a wedding can be made very easy. The fantastic Sarah of Fota Island Resort and Spa was kind enough to share a few tips on putting together your day with ease!
If you had some words of advice for newly engaged couples starting out on their planning what would they be?
If you’re newly engaged, I would recommend starting off by thinking what you love as a couple and of course, the location. These two factors for the bacis of any wedding and from here you can add in different unique and personal little touches to create a more memorable and that little spark of something special to your big day. Next, create a wedding email that you both can access. This can be really handy because it allows you both to keep track of everything and there is no confusion over emails to and from your wedding reception, photographer, florist etc. Everything is easy to retrieve and recall when needed by both.
Also, I would say to share duties and get behind the planning process as a team. The bride will have many eager bridesmaids to help, however the decisions should be decided upon by the bride and groom. My advice is to make a list and choose ‘his’ and ‘hers’ tasks that will help even out the work load, but of course as one another for help and their thoughts along the way.
What is a MUST for the bride to have with her when she is looking for her potential wedding venue?
I would most definitely pack a camera or make a photo album on your phone! It can be difficult to remember all the little details such as room sizes, colour schemes, reception area and lots more on top of all the finer details such as packages information. I would also go prepared with a list of any questions that you may have before you even arrive. Don’t be afraid to ask plenty of questions as this helps gives your wedding coordinator further insight in to the wedding of your dreams.
Are there other questions you should ask on availability?
There are always plenty of questions that you have mentally listed in your head and then when it comes to meeting with your wedding coordinator you will want to know all the answers so be sure to write them all down before hand.
What is your capacity? You may fall in love with the reception area however if your guest list number is bigger than the room, you may be in a little trouble. Likewise, if you have chosen a small intimate wedding, stick with your theme and chose a venue that is in keeping with your wedding style and desire.
Are there different options for the night before/after? You may plan on making a 2-3 day event and having a ‘night before’ or ‘BBQ after party’. Discuss different packages available and different locations within the venue to ensure you get a taste of something a little different before/after your wedding day. This is always a great idea for family and friends traveling from near and far.
How flexible are each of the wedding packages that are on offer? Every wedding is different and not every bride and groom will want the same package, so be sure to ask if there is any flexibility. For example, if you chose not to have chair covers is there a different offer/reduction in place of any changes.
