Poll: What will you do with your dress after the wedding?

After the wedding day, there are a few loose ends that always need tidying up. One aspect that we are always fascinated by is the wedding dress. For us, clothing is like an artifact that holds memories. The lingering smell of a bride’s perfume, the feel of the material on your skin and the fit; all embedded into the fabric of your gown.

With this in mind it got us wondering, what are brides doing with their gowns after the big day? It’s no surprise that the majority of brides are deciding to keep their gown. Whether it’s for sentimental value or to eventually pass on, brides are looking to hold on to their beautiful dresses.

Some are deciding to DIY their dress and repurpose it into something useful and pretty. From decorative cushions, to children’s wear and of course a redesign for you to wear, there are so many options here!

A few brides are also looking to give their dress away to a charity or pass on to a family member. Personally, I think this is a lovely option. So many other brides to be may be delighted with a beautiful second hand dress. We love this story of a 911 operator who intervened when a bride rang up in a panic reporting that her dress had been stolen:

Finally, ‘trash the dress’ is also become an option for brides recently. Cystic Fibrosis Ireland are just one example of a charity who are taking the new trend and using it to raise awareness.
