An adorable ice-cream themed wedding inspired by the couple’s first date…
James and Ashleigh fell in love on their first date at Maud’s Cafe on the Lisburn Road, so it was only fitting that their wedding theme paid tribute to their favourite treat.
Filled with laughter, their special day was a mirage of coloured whimsy and flourishing florals. Each table was named after a Maud’s ice-cream – delightful flavours such as Forrest Fruits and Blue Surf. Neatly placed at each setting was a cute wooden spoon favour engraved with ‘J&A’ for each guest. And for the grand finale, their meal ended with a trio of desserts featuring Maud’s signature – Pooh Bear Delight!
The newlyweds even made a cheeky trip to the ice-cream parlour after exchanging vows!
The Proposal…
“It was a huge surprise for me! James came to pick me up on Sunday 8th February 2015 and we headed towards Tollymore Forest Park. During a walk along the river, he stopped at the stepping stones and it was here he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Afterwards, we headed to Slieve Donard Resort & Spa for an overnight stay. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant to celebrate and the next morning we both enjoyed a massage and relaxed in the spa. It was great!”
On The Venue…
“We both really love Slieve Donard Resort and its surroundings. The staff are all so pleasant and helpful and the hotel is so luxurious! It is a very special venue to us after spending many birthdays and special occasions here, we couldn’t imagine having our wedding anywhere else.”
“The whole experience was amazing. The chandelier suite was stunning, with room styling by SBD Events. Our floral arrangements were designed by James’ dad, Wedding Designs by David McConkey. With spectacular views of the sea and mountains, it was exactly what we wanted. The management and staff excelled themselves to make our day perfect and our Master of Ceremony, Mohammed, managed our day to ensure everything flowed seamlessly. Our guests all commented how amazing the Slieve Donard was and the top quality of the service they received on the day – and even at the private breakfast the next morning.”
On The Photographer…
“Our wedding photographer, Matt Symons, made our wedding day experience so enjoyable. We met with him and his wife Carrie in the lead up, so he could find out the things we thought would be most important on the day. Working with them was so easy. They knew exactly what we wanted and made it fun. Lots of laughs were had!”
The Bridal Party Style…
In keeping with their sweet candy theme and beautiful floral arrangements, the groomsmen donned fuschia floral ties and brightly coloured socks, with the groom wearing bright yellow – his favourite colour!
While Ashleigh looked stunning in a elegant ball-gown wedding dress. Featuring a lace beaded bodice and ivory satin bow around the waist, it was ever so delicately pretty. A cosy fur wrap was the perfect bridal accessory as the newlyweds enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display at the end of the night.
A huge thank you to James and Ashleigh for sharing their special day at Slieve Donard Resort and Spa with us and to their photographer Matt Symons for allowing us to publish these beautiful moments. You can see more of his work at www.mattsymons.c
