It’s easy to see why all the celebs flock to Italy’s Amalfi Coast each summer on their luxurious private yachts. I have literally just returned from this paradise holiday destination and was so excited, I just had to share everything about it with you! Although, I was gutted to have missed Eva Longoria, MIC’s Millie Mackintosh, Lindsay Lohan and Olivia Palermo to name a few who were on vacation in the region at the same time! Can you tell I was seriously celeb stalking every yacht I saw? If you are thinking of declaring your love to your other half, I can honestly recommend a trip here, myself and my fiancé found it to be one of the most romantic places on our bucket list of places to go!
The glittering waters and gripping drama of this coastline left us totally gobsmacked. Here are four of my highlights to consider when deciding where to ask that all-important question.
The Tunnel Of Love
The image says it all. You really need to witness the magic of the island of Capri for yourself. It has certainly stole a place in my heart forever! The port of Capri can seem like a cattle mart on your arrival, it was extremely busy with hundreds of tourists arriving on ferries and boats all at once. And this was a bit of a let-down for us.
But on reflection I would highly recommend splashing the cash and hiring a private boat for you and your loved one. I know if I ever return, I will be doing this! It will give you the freedom to tour the island and relax in the knowledge that your captain will take you to all the special crags and inlets that make this island so famous. This tour will allow you to stop off for a leisurely swim and bring you to attractions such as the Blue Grotto and the larger than life Tunnel of Love. Spectacular!
Bagni della Regina Giovanna
I chose this proposal spot as an ideal choice for the adventurous couple who thrive on finding locations off the beaten track. It certainly impressed us with no commercialization whatsoever. Make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes and lots of water for this one! Located just outside the town of Sorrento, it can be easily reached by catching the Line A bus for under €2.00. If you are looking for an intimate location to ask for your partner’s hand in marriage, this is the perfect choice away from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist haunts.
We found this gem down a steep trail, it is a secluded lagoon that many locals tend to visit during lazy, hot summer days. Pack a lunch and cool off in the crystal blue waters. If you are feeling brave enough, you can even take a daring jump from the cliff tops into the sea (we were too chicken to do this hehe)! Following this, take a hike back up through a forest of foliage which will lead you to the top of ancient Roman ruins and a mind-blowing view of the Bay of Sorrento.
However, be warned! This trail is not for the faint-hearted or those who may have issues with mobility. You will be stopping to catch a breath about 100 times on the climb back up!
Take a Trip Down The Coast
Hop on a scooter and take a jaunt down the picturesque coast. These winding, cliff-side roads offer some of the most amazing views in Europe as you can see from my holiday pictures. Stop along some of the many towns dotted along this glittering peninsula such as Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. Walking along the winding flower-filled, romantic streets and viewing the many architectural wonders will inspire you to get down on one knee. We found the teeny streets of Positano so amusing. God knows how they manage to fit buses on a two-way street that should really only be fit as a sidewalk! I found something really magical about this Italian strip and the locals are so friendly and obliging. They will be only too happy to witness your special moment.
Watch The Sunset
It may sound cliché but popping the question while watching the sun set on the Amalfi Coast will blow your other half away. It was our favourite thing to do each evening before going for dinner. Many towns along the coast have stunning restaurants in prime locations with fabulous look-out points to sea. La Terrazza, a restaurant looking over the Bay of Naples in Sant’ Agnello was our usual haunt. The pizza and spaghetti was to die for! We also frequented at the Grand Hotel Cocumella and the Vista Sky Lounge for chic cocktails with a view. Definitely hire a photographer to secretly capture your all-important event! You will have beautiful photographs to take home and share with your family and friends. We were lucky enough to witness an engagement photo shoot as the sun set and three weddings on our trip!
