Showcasing a whole town!

One of the things I have learned about destinations in Ireland over the past year or so in my dealings with hotels and wedding venues up and down the country, is towns and cities that tend to collaborate and work together do better than places that are cut-throat competing.  You only have to look at the awesome success that was the Volvo Ocean Race in Galway last summer to see that when an entire community comes together anything can be achieved.

I was reminded of this again recently when the town of Kinsale, in Co. Cork hosted the final of the Ultimate Job in Ireland.  The 10 finalists travelled to Kinsale and sampled the wedding venues, bars, restaurants in their series of tasks to compete for the top prize.  This idea clearly appealed to both the people involved but also the local businesses, so they have decided to come together once again to host a Wedding Showcase….with a difference!

On Sunday, 13th July the entire town of Kinsale will be a grand-scale wedding fair.  The Venues will welcome you in for a showaround of their banquetting suites dressed for a wedding, the florists will have their shop doors open ready to talk to prospective couples and of course the photographers will be snapping away and showcasing their work too!  I think this is a really innovative idea and will draw wedding couples from all over the county and farther afield to consider Kinsale as a wedding destination.  As the gourmet capital of Ireland and with some stunning scenery nearby, you really couldn’t ask for a better location for your special day.

All of Kinsale’s main hotels will be open, including the Carlton (with is fantastic balcony and view of Oysterhaven Bay), The Trident, which sits right on the marina and has a truly nautical feel, and Actons Hotel, in the town centre which has been doing weddings for generations.  For a more intimate boutique wedding, the Blue Haven is on offer or if it is private exclusivity you’re looking for then Ballinacurra House is the spot for you.
