It might be tempting to start a new skin care regime right before your big day but really you should allow yourself at least 4-6 weeks before the wedding to start a new routine, and ideally 6 months!
Your pre-wedding routine should be all about pampering the skin. Now is the time to invest in a natural skin care range that may have been a bit above budget before. Think about it, if you are going to spend lots on make-up and hair, why leave your skin out, it’s the foundation that everything else sits on!
An ideal routine would be:
- Cleanse your skin morning and night with a quality cream or oil based cleanser. Oil attracts oil and efficiently removes grime, dead skin cells and excess oil without drying out the skin.
- Next, your exfoliant. This step is very important, even if you have dry or sensitive skin. A natural exfoliant with a very gentle grain can be used by all skin types every day, even twice a day. It gives a light polish to the skin removing dead skin cells and cleaning the pores. And if you suffer with dry skin, exfoliation removes the dead skin cell layer exposing the new layer that is more able to hold in moisture.
- Follow this with a toner. Toners have really changed, no longer are they alcohol based products that dry the skin, well they shouldn’t be! A toner should be the simplest product in your routine. Tea tree water for oily skin, rose water for mature or dry skin, orange blossom water for combination skin. All can be found very cheaply in the essential oil section of a health food shop. Just spritz on the face, and moments later pat dry.
- Next comes your serum, you can skip this step during the day if you find it too heavy. A good natural serum will be made from what are called dry or short oils, meaning they sink into the skin really quickly.
- Choose a natural moisturiser, it will sink in after only moments and really nourish the skin. The absence of synthetic preservatives and fragrances stop your skin reacting. Just make sure to try all new products in lots of time before the wedding as you can react to natural substances too such as essential oils.
- And finally your eye gel! A nice trick is to keep all your skin care products, especially your eye gel in the fridge. If your skin is puffy or you’re a bit stressed there is nothing better than a dab of cool eye gel.
