A beautiful Scottish inspired wedding filled with seashells by the seashore…
Sometimes in life, you just gotta kick those heels off and enjoy those special moments. The gorgeous bride, Jenny, did exactly that as she frolicked in her Pronovias gown along the water’s edge with her new husband.
Their joyous smiles and infectious laughter are a sight to behold. What a romantic day at Slieve Donard Resort and Spa!
Chris is originally from Glasgow. So of course, traditional Scottish colours and details would play a big part of their special day.
The pair met while on a graduate training scheme in London after university. A low-key but simply beautiful proposal kick-started their wedding planning last year.
“We were in Scotland staying with his parents in Nairn for his birthday. There were lots of family and friends due to join us for the weekend to celebrate and before they arrived Chris suggested that we went for a walk on the beach, somewhere we both love spending time. After we had walked for a while (and finally managed to shake off an unsuspecting dog walker whom Chris was getting annoyed with for being too close!) Chris suddenly dropped down on one knee and popped the question.”
Their subtle beach theme with a Scottish twist suited the relaxed and fun atmosphere of the day perfectly. A neutral palette of navy complemented the traditional and colourful kilts of the day.
The culture was infused into the celebrations by including thistles in the bouquets, a piper at the church and a Ceilidh band in the evening. While seashell decor, beach names for the tables and personalised pebbles for the place settings gave a nod to the stunning backdrop of the hotel.
“I grew up visiting Newcastle and the Mournes regularly and the view of the beach with the mountains in the background is one of my absolute favourites. This, along with the fabulous facilities that the hotel offers, made Slieve Donard a front runner for me. And, thankfully Chris agreed. Although being a very keen golfer, the proximity to the Royal County Down certainly sealed the deal for him!”
“The setting itself was the main wow factor, especially given we were lucky enough to have the sun shining on the day and in the build up to the weekend when our guest were arriving – most of whom had never been to this part of the world before! The Chandelier Room, where our reception was hosted, is a beautiful room which definitely makes the most of the fabulous views. The staff at the Slieve Donard were so helpful in all of the organisation, both in the months of preparation and on the day itself. Their service was impeccable throughout the entire stay of our guests. We received so much lovely feedback from everyone on the whole experience.”
“We loved the banter with our photographer Fraser Stewart! It’s so important to get along with your photographer given how much of the day they are around for. Half the time we barely noticed he was there and during the times when he needed to get people organised and give us some direction, he was so easy going and had all the guests laughing. It’s so clear from the photos how at ease everyone is – big smiles all round! The whole process was seamless. We met him once before the big day and gave him a list of photos. On the day itself, he was great at keeping us on track. And of course the photos themselves capture the day perfectly – full of fun and emotions in a relaxed atmosphere – exactly what we had hoped for when we chose him.”
Huge thanks to Chris and Jenny for sharing their special day with us and to Fraser Stewart Photography for allowing us to publish these beautiful moments. You can see more of his work at www.fraserstewartphotography.co.uk
