The A,B,C of Honeymoons

So many destinations, so many choices! Your honeymoon is the part of the wedding that every couple looks forward to. Jetting off after the wedding, just the two of you on a romantic break.

When planning your honeymoon:
• Decide how long you can both take off work
• Be realistic in what you can afford
• Is it more affordable in terms of time and finances to go away on honeymoon a few months after the wedding?
• Discuss the options available – would you like relaxation & beach?
• Is a 3 week safari or sky diving more your idea of a great honeymoon?
• Factor in long flights after your wedding, jet lag and time changes.
• Do you need to get vaccinations before you honeymoon?
• Is a city break in Europe more feasible for you – Paris, Barcelona, Venice?
• Ask your travel agent what are the best options and places to go to for the time of year for your honeymoon. Heffernan’s Travel in Cork and Destinations in Dublin are both Honeymoon experts and will gladly assist you.

For many couples “mini moons” are a popular option. Budget constraints, children at home, and hectic work schedules have all meant that couples simply don’t have the choice of having a month long adventure around the world. There are some spectacular honeymoon choices in Ireland, whether it’s a rugged island or a romantic hotel.

Gregan’s Castle in the heart of the Burren in Co. Clare is one such place. Gregan’s Castle is a luxurious haven, nestled in the hills, overlooking the Burren and the Clare countryside. Irish hospitality, relaxation and food are at their best here.

Likewise the Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Co. Waterford is a beautiful location. It is sewn into the Waterford coast and days and indeed evenings could be spent looking out to sea. The spa at the Cliff House Hotel will leave you feeling completely revitalized after any wedding stress.

If you would prefer something more outdoors investigate the yurts on Cape Clear, off the coast of West Cork. Imagine the balmy evenings on the tranquility of Cape Clear, watching the world go by.

Have you ever thought of honeymooning in a lighthouse? Crookhaven Lighthouse offers accommodation with a difference and is reaped in fascinating history.

Whatever you choose for your honeymoon make sure you are both happy with your decision. Compromise and don’t put yourselves under pressure. The most important thing is that you have time together after you wedding to enjoy the memories of your special day.
