Unexpected Beauty Treat: Baking Soda

Unexpected Beauty Treat: Baking Soda

As we’ve seen before, there are so many secret beauty treats that can be found right under your own nose at home. Although we won’t be ditching our fancy shampoo for anyone, it’s nice to know that if the population was overcome by a zombie like virus tomorrow, there would be a good alternative for cleaning our hair.

Antiperspirant

If you’re rushing out the door and suddenly realize you’re out of your regular deodorant, applying baking soda under your arms is a quick dry alternative!

Skin

Great for exfoliating, make a paste with 3 parts soda and 1 part water. Apply to the face with your hands in soft, circular motions to gently rub off any dead skin. The same method can also be used to relieve sunburn (minus the circular motions!).

Teeth

Using a little toothpaste, mix in one teaspoon baking soda and one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide (ask your Pharmacist)with a half teaspoon of water. Mix the ingredients then brush your teeth for two minutes to whiten teeth.

Hair

Clean out combs and brushes with 4 cups of hot water and a half cup of baking soda. Soak for over an hour and rinse clean. For an alternative (and chemical free) shampoo, combine half a cup of water with half a teaspoon of baking soda. Pour over hair and rinse as normal.
