You have the wedding dress bought! It flatters your shape in every possible area, you really do feel like a million dollars! Wedding shoes and jewellery are next on the list, but what about a wedding veil? It is not essential to wear a veil with your wedding dress, the choice is yours. It is tradition to walk down the aisle wearing a blusher veil which is then lifted by your father upon reaching the end of the altar, the maid of honour before the vows are said, or the groom after the vows have been said. If you decide you don’t like the idea of the blusher veil you can choose to walk down the aisle with your veil away from your face.
Like all of your wedding accessories, you are going to want your veil to suit your wedding dress. Make sure to think about the decoration or key features on your dress. The veil should end either above or below any embellishment on your dress so that it does not take away from the detailing. If your dress has show-stopping back detail it may be best to choose a short birdcage style veil or a long sheer veil which you can see through.
When choosing your style of wedding veil you should also consider what style would be most flattering to your body shape. Pear shaped women often look best wearing a veil ending at the waist, shoulder or elbow as this focuses on their smallest parts rather than their curvy lower half. Veils to the waist and above also suit petite women, while tall women can carry off the length of longer styles.
Another detail to take into consideration would be the hairstyle you are hoping to wear on your wedding day. A lot of brides decide to go with an up-style which is perfect if you are wearing a veil as almost any style will suit this. If you are planning on wearing your hair down it may be best to choose a shorter, lightweight simple design.
Whether you decide to wear a veil or not, remember to ‘let your hair down’ once all the fuss and organising has been taken care of.
