Wedding Cake Alternatives: Our Top 10 Sweet Treats

The wedding cake has always been a part of the overall wedding, yet now we are seeing many wedding cake alternatives being introduced. The cutting of the cake is a tradition which you may not be willing to skip during your wedding reception but you can always tie an alternative idea in with some careful planning. Buffet style tables are becoming increasingly more popular, allowing your guest the freedom of helping themselves to their preference and portion size. A great idea, as not all guests may be ready for dessert directly after their meal!

Our Top 10 Wedding Cake Alternatives:

10. Doughnut Table

A table filled with different flavour doughnuts. Don’t be afraid to be adventurous! Perhaps try caramel apple, cherry, peanut butter or cheesecake flavours. Give your guests something to remember!

9. Cake Made of Cheese

No need to compromise the cutting of the cake with this choice. This is a great choice for those brides and grooms who prefer a savory dessert rather than a sweet one. Cho0se oval shaped blocks of your favourite cheese and stack them on top of one another.

8. Croquembouches

For those of you that may not know, this is a tower construction of French cream filled pastries which is then decorated by spun sugar ribbons. Did anyone else see the episode of Desperate Housewives when Bree attempted this on live TV during her cookery show?!

7. Miniature Dessert Table

Bite sized desserts will allow your guests to try a little of everything. Miniature cheesecakes, profiteroles and pavlovas are all perfect additions. Your guests will be spoilt for choice!

6. Candy Bar/ Sweet Table

A keen favourite. Gather a collection of your favourite sweets, perhaps include some retro choices from when you and your groom were children! It is all about the presentation with this choice. Don’t forget candy bags, personalised ones look great!

5. Pie Table

Pie is the new cake, or so it seems. If your gran is an avid pie maker get her on board to help. It’s also a lovely idea to ask guests to bring a home baked pie which you can then create the table with. Adds a nice personal touch to the occasion while including everyone!

4. Pancake Station

Perfect if you can get your hands on a chef to stay put to create these delicious treats! Arrange a collection of toppings such as chocolate chips, maple syrup, marshmallows, fruit and cream! Who will make the most delicious creation?

3. Cookies & Milk Buffet

What most could you want after a delicious meal. Allow your guests to relax with a variety of delicious cookies and biscuits, washed down by a glass or two of milk. Make sure to remember the flavoured milk! Chocolate, strawberry, hazelnut… Yummy!

2. Cupcake Tower

I am known to not be able to resist a cupcake, regardless of the flavour! These delicious treats are more popular now than ever before. A cupcake tower with different flavours is the ideal wedding cake alternative.

1. Ice Cream Van/ Ice Cream Sundae Station

Who doesn’t love ice cream? Whether you decide to go all out and hire a retro style ice cream van, or create your own sundae station. Make sure you have a number of flavours on hand and plenty of topping to choose from. Hot fudge, chocolate flakes, M&Ms, oreo pieces, fresh fruit, cream. I can almost taste it!
