Wedding Photography: The Morning After

When you as a bride think of your wedding photographer you imagine them involved mostly in the beginning of the wedding day. Slowly fading into the background as the wedding reception gets into full swing! How would you feel about them returning the morning after the wedding day to capture an intimate shoot with you and your new husband? Welcome to the new addition to wedding photography.

Having become popular recently by couples of all ages, the morning after shoot is the next trend in wedding photography. Newly weds are inviting their photographer into their hotel room to capture intimate shots after the high of the wedding day. The images usually involve lingerie, in bed shots or steamy shower poses taken with tasteful discretion. The shoot is not necessarily done the morning after the wedding, it can be organised weeks or even months after.

The aim is to show the fun and sexy side of marriage. American photographer Michelle Jonne who is said to have begun the trend, says she was inspired by the Georgio Armani perfume campaign featuring the Beckhams. Jonne told The New York Daily News “I wanted to do the shoots to show that [marriage] is happy … it’s sexy and it’s not over”.

This type of shoot is certainly not for everyone. It seems many have already coined the shoots as being trashy and distasteful. Why would you want to document your most intimate moments for the world to see is the question most are asking.

What do you think? Would you do this type of shoot?
