Wedding Shoes: Breaking The Mould

Wedding shoes were usually white or ivory in colour, simple, elegant with the heel height depending on the bride. Brides today are pushing the boundaries while letting their wedding shoes say a little more about them and their personalities!

While a lot of brides are still choosing a light coloured heel, the heel heights have become higher and jewels and adornments more stylish then ever! I for sure know that I wouldn’t be trading my 5inch heels for anyone or anything! Yet not all women like wearing high heels, therefore why ‘should’ they wear them on their wedding day. I have seen many wedding shoots recently in which brides have chosen to wear their Converse in style! Some even going that step further in customising them for the special day. If trainers are their preferred footwear choice, who’s to say they cannot wear them on the wedding day.

Wedding themes also determine the bride’s choice of footwear. I came across a ranch style wedding where the bride and bridesmaids wore cowboy boots with their gowns: it looked amazing! Brides having a beach wedding often choose to go barefoot to the ceremony or in flip flops. If alternative shoes seem a little too daring then you could just add a pop of colour. Perhaps  shoes in the colour of your overall wedding theme. Choosing blue wedding shoes as your ‘something blue’ is also another option.

If the idea of wearing a wacky colour or style of bridal shoe just isn’t for you why not have your bridesmaids wear coloured or mismatching shoes. Mismatching shoes look great in wedding photographs, adding a bit of quirkiness! I’m sure your ladies in waiting would only just be delighted to get another wear out of their favourite heels. Whatever your choice of footwear, make sure you are comfortable. Either way I can predict a few shoeless dancers at the wedding reception as the evening wears on.
