Your wonderful partner in life has got down on one knee and proposed and now you are knee deep in Wedding Planning! One of the first things once engaged most girls dreams of is her wedding dress. Some people might admit that they have been thinking about it since they were 5…….. but hey….. There are no laws against it!
So when you are setting off on this exciting mission you will thank us for advising you to:
- Research and book your bridal boutique appointments well in advance, especially if you can only do Saturdays. Check how long your appointment will be and if you need to bring anything (shoes etc!)
- Be very careful when choosing friends and family to view your prospective dresses! Choose those with opinions you trust and have your best interests at heart. Don’t overcrowd the dressing room – it’s not comfortable for anybody; not the family, not the salesperson and certainly not for you.
- Consider the day of your wedding – getting in and out of cars, walking up the aisle, going to your chosen locations for photographs, sitting down to dinner and dancing all night. How easy or comfortable will your dress be? Will it be very heavy to wear? Can you move freely in it? Will you be conscious of something showing/not showing/being too bare/too restrictive?
- Consider your budget…… yes, there is that nasty word again! Boutiques will have dresses in all price ranges so be realistic in what you can afford. Don’t forget about the veil, alterations, shoes and undies that need to go with it!
- Listen to your sales assistant’s advice. They meet brides to be every single day – all shapes, builds, skin tones, hair and eye colouring. So if they suggest a dress that you may not have picked out yourself, go for it! You’d never know; it might be the one! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
- Wear white undies!
