Welcome to another Tip Tuesday, where we share our insider info on getting ready for your big day.
This week we’re giving you the insider info on how to pick the right wedding DJ for your wedding, and hopefully avoid the dodgy 90’s dance tracks early on in the reception. Yes, we love them and they’re a guilty pleasure for us too but if it’s bright out then it’s way too early.
Often wedding DJs are more on the last of people’s wedding to-do lists (unless music is your wedding theme) leaving the music portion of the night to get overlooked. If your 21st had your cousin’s boyfriend as the DJ then you’ll know what I’m talking about.
So to avoid some awkward dance shuffling in the night, here are some check list tips for you:
Personality
Okay, it’s important that your DJ has a fun like able persona but we’ve all seen it. The DJs that think they are the god of dance and their music has the power to make people move their feet. Avoid the douche bag DJs. They’ll talk over your first dance (yes, we’ve seen that happen and it was appalling!) and they’ll just play anything they think is ‘cool’.
Have a face-to-face interview with them and use your own douch-dar to judge.
Broad Sense of Music Knowledge
This is really important. Your DJ should have an idea of what’s current and the classics to please all the generations attending the wedding. There’s nothing more annoying than a DJ who’s a big fan of one decade. If all else fails, request some ABBA.
Are They a Good Listener?
Having a DJ who’s a good listener will make the night so much more special. Listening to people’s requests on the night as well as what kind of music the couple does or doesn’t want. All round, if a DJ listens to what the guests want then everything else doesn’t matter. And yes, a good DJ pronounces the couples name right too….
