Naked cakes have be cropping up in blogs and Real Weddings for a while now, gaining popularity gradually. The elegant but simple look of the naked cake features generous layers of icing, sometimes featuring a layer of fruit filling and topped off with pretty berries for a rustic twist. Everything is exposed with zero icing to cover the exterior of the cake… Hence the name!
Some refer to these as unfinished cakes but there is something simple, interesting and rustic about this trend. To me, they can sometimes also have that organized ‘messy’ look that make treats so pretty.
These cakes can be decorated with fresh cream, fruit, flowers, powdered sugar or even different sponges for an ombre look.
So many cakes can seem a little too artistic or scary to cut into, but a naked cake can feel like a romantic ‘undone’ kind of food. There’s something wholesome and comforting about this look and is really approachable. The relaxed look of these cakes have something really inviting about them.
