You can never be too prepared, right? Especially if you are a serious fashionista who wouldn’t dare to be seen sporting last year’s trends on the biggest day of her life. We will still be seeing some of these trends in 2016 and will be a little sad to see them go. But on the plus side, things are about to be completely turned upside down on the Irish wedding scene.
Pastels
Soft pinks, luscious lavenders and powder blues are so last season. Brace yourselves, 2016 is all about loud, bright and wonderful shades of buttercup yellow, fiesta red and snorkel blue. These vivid additions to your palette will be a much welcomed splash of excitement to your wedding pictures. Don’t stress if these hues are too daring for you, because rose quartz, light greys and mocha palettes will be the call of the day for more demure brides.
Standard Group Shots
All hail the drone. Standard group shots are to be banished into the weathered pages of treasured photo albums. Replaced with aerial wedding pictures taken by unmanned aircrafts hovering high in the sky, your celebrations will reach new heights.
Formal Flower Arrangements
Prim and proper bridal blossoms are a thing of the past. Taking the outside in will continue to remain high in the style stakes next year. Cascading bouquets are back with a bang – and the wilder the better. These water-fall style beauties can be tamed by using subtle colours and lush foliage or make a bold statement with bright colours and in-season metallic flecks.
Long Sleeves
Kate Middleton inspired traditional creations sporting long sleeves and modest features are being replaced with alluring backless numbers and plunging necklines in 2016. Eye-catching embellished backs with intricate detailing will be heaven for gals with magpie tendencies. We couldn’t be more excited!

Enough with the signs people. If we see one more ‘pick a seat, not a side’ palette, we will scream.
Candy Carts
It all began with the humble candy cart. An ode to the retro sherbets and zingy flavours that tantalized our taste-buds as youths. It was fruit salad and black jacks galore at every wedding, but the time has come to lay this sweet craze to rest. Food stations have triumphed over the last 18 months becoming a wow-factor feature at many receptions. From cigar bars, pop-up gin & cocktail stations to quirky ice-cream vendors, we are drooling at the mouth even thinking about the array of options.
Traditional Banquet Dishes
Beef + chicken fillet = snooze fest. Food is the talking point of every wedding and you want to ensure a lasting impression is made with your guests. Chefs will be embracing the bright and beautiful trend by infusing their dishes with colour. Canapes and gin will be all the rage. And rumour has it that fancy cheese platters will be replaced by mouth-watering bacon in the form of bourbon pulled pork, gourmet hotdogs and chorizo in brioche buns. Rejoice.
Mermaid Style Gowns
While we do love a stunning fishtail dress to showcase the bride’s killer curves, we are after falling head over heels for vintage-inspired columns and tiers. Layered ladylike tiers are reminiscent of vintage romance while a column silhouette reflecting old school 1950’s screen sirens will add drama to your very own love story. Perfection.
Photo booths
Every. Single. Wedding. Has. One. Say goodbye to the photo booth for your wedding. Slow-motion video booths are where it’s all at for 2016. This high-tech trend will take capturing the fun-filled moments of your evening to a whole new level. Throw in some mandatory props and an open bar, you will be laughing for weeks at the hilarious shenanigans.
Rustic Themes
While rustic country chic will continue to pop up during the summer months when outdoor ceremonies reign; there will be a seismic shift in wedding décor trends during 2016. Glamour and elegance is set to replace the bohemian vibe of previous years. Wedding themes will be very sophisticated with neutral tones and glitzy chandeliers. Less is certainly more with this grown-up look.
