When choosing the wine to serve at your wedding, choose carefully. It is important to have just the right wine, as the perfect glass of wine compliments a fine meal. You should spend time in finding a wedding wine that brings the meal together. While you wedding venue will be able to give you direction as to what wine would go well with your chosen dishes, don’t take their word for it. Sample each wine, perhaps at the same time you are sampling the wedding menu so you can determine if they work hand in hand together.
White wine goes best with light meats such as chicken, fish and seafood. While red wines work better with heartier, heavier meats like beef, veal and pork. The complex flavours in a red wine are more evident with more savory foods. Of course supply a choice for your wedding guests. If you are thinking of having a champagne reception upon arrival at your wedding reception, see what sparkling wines are available. No one will even notice the difference, and it will save you a few Euros to put towards the dinner wine!
While some venues may offer the choice of bringing your own wine and paying a corkage fee, do your maths and see if it is worthwhile. If they offer a nice house wine, it may be more convenient and even economical to go with that! It also means less work for you as you will not have to worry about buying from a supplier and deciding how much or how little you will need. Go with whichever wine you feel goes best with your wedding menu and worry about it no more. I’m sure each of your guests will enjoy the tasty meal and wine whether they are an expert wine connaisseur or not!
