What Will I do With my Wedding Dress?

This week, bride-to-be and blogger Sara looks at her options for selling your wedding dress…

As mentioned in a previous blog, I had bought a Vera Wang wedding dress in America but ended up getting a different dress. I had to try and sell my brand new Vera Wang. I thought it would be easy but I can assure you it wasn’t!
I put it up on Done Deal and it was disastrous. I was contacted by every scam artist and freak known to mankind. I listed it on Adverts.ie and that was much better. I had people enquire about the dress but no one biting. One of the main issues was that you had to bring people to your home to try on the dress and it wasn’t the best setting for a girl to fall in love with the dress.

I came across a mother and daughter duo called ‘Timeless Bridal Wear’ and they have a very unique business model that is great for people wanting to sell their dress or if you are looking for something unique or high-end without paying a fortune. They have a studio in Trim and attend most wedding fairs and basically what they did is sell only the very best used or brand new dresses for a fraction of the price. I handed over my dress to them and they are selling on my behalf. I now don’t need to worry about getting back to the emails or filtering out time wasters. They can do it all. When I was in the studio they had a stunning collection including a beautiful Grecian style Sharon Hoey among many more. If you’re looking for a unique dress that you are not going to see in the shops, then these guys are worth paying a visit to. OR if you have a very exclusive designer dress and wondering what to do with after the wedding, maybe have a chat to them and see can they sell it for you.
Another idea for your dress after you have finished is to get your photographer to do a ‘Trash The Dress’ shoot.

This basically involves you and your other have trashing the dress. I have seen some brilliant ones of a bride jet skiing, another rolling around in a bog and another in a paint war. Roslyn from couple.ie provided this image!
One very good idea for your dress after you have used it is to donate to a charity. Oxfam appear to be leading the way in bridal wear. It is a nice act of kindness and the guys in the stores are so lovely.
Or as my mother keeps telling me….. ‘You can use it for the Christening gown’ …. One step at a time!
