Brrr… it’s cold outside.
We all know the Irish weather is unpredictable – especially during the autumn/winter months! By planning ahead, you can still capture magical moments you will treasure for a lifetime.
We caught up with Bernadette Hayes of Hayes Photography, who shared her top tips for your winter wedding photo shoot.
Opt For An Earlier Ceremony
During the depths of winter, the sun can set as early as mid-afternoon. Hosting your wedding ceremony earlier in the day will allow plenty of time to take a series of shots before dusk. Taking advantage of the light by getting your outdoor photo session completed will not only give you more time to celebrate with family and friends, but you will also avoid having to grit your teeth while posing during falling temperatures.
Allow For Plan B
With good working knowledge of the layout of your wedding venue, your photographer will more than likely have scouted for fabulous backdrops. From experience, bad weather stops many winter brides and grooms from taking any outdoor photos!
Discuss this likelihood with your photographer ahead of your big day and put in place a ‘Plan B’. Your photographer is sure to have lots of creative ideas to create magical indoor snaps. There’s no need to fret about the bad weather, just relax and enjoy the festivities.
Warm Attire & Emergency Kit Essentials Will Save The Day
You will never look or feel your best if you are cold! Dressing appropriately and packing the necessary essentials will have a serious impact on your wedding photos. Imagine how uncomfortable you will look in your wedding album if you are posing rigidly and shivering with the cold!
Whether you purchase fur gilets for your bridesmaids or wellies and umbrellas to combat the rain, it’s best to be prepared.
Trust Your Photographer
If your photographer randomly approaches you during the evening to go outside for some snaps, trust their judgement!! More than likely, it will be to take an impromptu WOW-factor photograph.
Maybe snowflakes have just began to flutter from the twinkling sky, or maybe the sun setting against those gloomy December clouds is just too good to miss! We promise the resulting image will be amazing.
