Baby, it's cold outside! Winter Weddings

Winter Weddings are becoming more and more popular, as evidenced by the Engagement Survey we did earlier this year.  30% of brides and grooms are now tying the knot during the cold winter months.  With the nights getting darker, it got me thinking about winter weddings and where would be the perfect wedding venue for a winter celebration.

For a winter wedding, I’m thinking rustic old buildings, log fires, mulled wine, fireworks in the evening.  The added bonus with a winter wedding is you aren’t going to be hung up on planning your day around a beautiful summers day (we all know we don’t get that many of them in Ireland!) so you will be able to relax a bit more and go with whatever Mother Nature throws at you on the day.

Some of my favourite Wedding Venues for a Winter wedding include:

  • Dromoland Castle in Clare has dramatic high vaulted ceilings & looks spectacular lit up at night.
  • Lisloughrey lodge in Mayo is a quaint Lodge house, with funky dark decor.
  • Ghan House in Cavan… think  roaring fire, and views of the lake.
  • Mount Falcon (pictured above) is set in beautiful grounds in Ballina, Co. Mayo and is a stunning stately home setting for your winter nuptials.
  • Barnabrow House in East Cork oozes charm in a gorgeous rustic setting.
  • Clontarf Castle in Dublin has a fantastically Medieval theme, a suit of armour even greets you at the entrance!
  • Kilronan Castle in Roscommon has  plush carpets and high windows to give a real cosy feel for your winter wedding.
  • Dylan Hotel is a 5 star hotel with its opulent surroundings, rich dark coloured private dining room is perfect for a small intimate wedding in Dublin city centre.
