Wedding Superstitions: Would You be Superstitious About Getting Married in 2013?

Today I am putting a question to all our brides & grooms. Do you believe in superstitions? If so, would you be sceptical about planning a 2013 wedding?

As you all know, 13 is supposedly an unlucky number. Friday the 13th being the unluckiest day of the year. While I have never really believed in superstitions myself, I probably wouldn’t choose to have my wedding on Friday the 13th.  But blocking off 2013 altogether because it contains the number 13? Surely that is being a little over cautious to say the least?

You want to be happy and excited in the run up to your wedding day, so perhaps if you have a tendency to believe in superstitions you have decided to either push forward or back your wedding date. No one wants a worrying bride! All this talk of superstitions got me thinking what others were there connected with weddings, take a read of what I came across!

  • It is very good luck for the bride to find a spider in her wedding gown.
  • If you can get a cat to eat out of your left shoe one week before the wedding it is considered good luck!
  • The bride should enter her new home by the main door and not fall or trip to prevent bad luck. Hence the tradition of the groom carrying the bride.
  • If the groom drops the wedding ring during the wedding the marriage is doomed.
  • Marrying when the hands of the clock are facing down is said to be bad luck. It is said to be best to have your ceremony between half past and the hour.

What other wedding superstitions or unusual wedding traditions have your heard of? And would these really have an impact when it came to the planning of your wedding?
