A Bridal Glow with Ayurveda

a bridal glow with Ayurveda

We all want to look glowing and radiant on our wedding day and whilst there are two people tying the knot the groom generally has a little less to worry about when it comes to awing people with his beauty. Throw him in a tux, comb his hair, shine his shoes and he is good to go!

It is a little more intense for the bride to be and with all eyes on you, the photographs & videos, the imminent Facebook shares and of course wanting to wow your husband to be, the pressure to look amazing is certainly on! It is often said that beauty is an inside job and from an Ayurvedic perspective that is certainly true. Here’s how to get a bridal glow with Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga. It is the traditional form of medicine that has been practiced in India for thousands of years. Ayurveda is a science that aims to prevent illnesses before they happen and treat disease by keeping the body in balance through diet, herbs, yoga, breathing exercises and traditional cleansing practices and techniques.
One of the most common prescriptions in Ayurveda is tumeric which is from the same family as the ginger root. Amongst its wide ranging benefits tumeric has extremely high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Besides being used as a medicinal aid, turmeric is used to whiten teeth, added to hair oil to combat dandruff and used in most skin care products for cosmetic purposes. Tumeric is an affordable and readily available herb that we can introduce to our diets in the lead up to our wedding to help us glow from the inside out!

We can help to detox our bodies by taking a half teaspoon of turmeric with hot water early in the morning every day. If you would like to add a tasty boost then mix equal parts cinnamon & turmeric. Cinnamon will also help with balancing blood sugar and increasing digestive power. Curcumin which is found in turmeric acts as a protectant for the liver which is responsible for ridding the body of toxins, proper liver functioning will result in glowing, clear skin. Our immunity can also be supported by taking turmeric as a supplement which is important when we are under more stress than usual planning a wedding.

As turmeric is an anti-inflammatory it is also excellent for preventing skin breakouts close to your big day. If you would prefer, you can add the turmeric and cinnamon blended with honey to hot milk or almond milk instead of water.
Add turmeric to your daily beauty routine as a simple and effective way to boost your overall health and glow. You can buy turmeric in the spices section at your local supermarket or in tablet form in your health food store.

Always take the advice of your doctor if you are on any medication, pregnant, nursing or have compromised health.
