Lots of couples love the idea of a Christmas wedding but worry about the logistics and actual planning of it. I have drawn up a list supporting both sides of the “Christmas Wedding argument”!
I Do!
- Family are Home
Christmas is a time when family and friends gather at home so isn’t it the perfect time to arrange a wedding? Also during Christmas lots of people are off on holidays so they may not have to take time off work to celebrate with you.
- Festive Spirit
At Christmas time everybody is in great form and more than happy to celebrate! Guests will love a Christmas wedding and want to share their Christmas cheer with you.
- Décor and Music
At Christmas time you can really plan your décor around the time of year that it is. Venues and churches will be already decorated too. The music can contain as much or as little of Christmas music as you choose.
- Food
There are many delicious foods that can be added to your Christmas reception – mince pies, mulled wine, festive logs, plum pudding.

- The Weather
The weather and its unpredictability is obviously a risk at Christmas time. However you probably have as much chance of having a sunny day in December as you do in July in Ireland!
Snow and icy conditions can be a problem for guests travelling and suppliers too.
- Bank Holidays
Do remember that there are several Bank Holidays over Christmas and New Year. These can make arranging appointments tricky so plan in advance.
- Daylight is limited
As we all know it gets dark early on winter days so if you have your heart set on lots of outdoor photos a Christmas /Winter wedding may not be for you.
- Organisational Skills
Because Christmas is extremely popular for weddings you will need to be super organized to book your dream venue and the wedding suppliers you really want.
