Perfume….Choosing it can be hard but choose the wrong one and you will be reaching for the Panadol!
Perfume is an emotional choice to be honest. Not life changing, but certainly emotional. I do love a good perfume and because it takes me back in time to all the major ages and stages in my life when I smell one I no longer wear. My top ones at the moment are: Elie Saab (going out), Creed Virgin Island Water (special occasions) and Shiseido Zen (everyday).
Parfum is the strongest type of fragrance you can buy; it normally comes in a 7.5ml bottle without a spray. Chanel does a range of these. Next you have the Eau De Parfum or EDP; this typically lasts six hours once sprayed and is my personal favourite. Eau De Toilette is the one that lasts around four hours and is lighter and sometimes slightly different to the EDP. Summer Fragrances then typically have no alcohol in them and are suitable for the summer; alcohol makes your skin more photosensitive so avoid wearing EDP by the pool.
Tips for choosing a new perfume:
- If it is a wedding day fragrance you are choosing, try something romantic and floral like Chanel’s Allure, Calvin Klein’s Eternity or Romance by Ralph Lauren. If you like heavier or sexier scents try Gucci’s Premiere or Armani’s Code.
- Don’t go and try fifteen scents at once. This will confuse you not to mention give you a headache, try two or three and make a decision based over a few days. The smell of coffee beans clears your nose and gets you ready for your next scent experience,
- Don’t buy into the latest designer fragrance just because you have the matching handbag!
- Ask advice, tell the sales consultant what you normally like and she will help you narrow down your search.
- As a rule if you work in an office or small space it is courteous to your co-worker’s not to drown yourself in perfume and to perhaps choose the Eau De Toilette by day.
- Ask for a sample and try it out, see if people compliment you on it.
Follow these tips and you will smell amazing!
