Chris McCarthy, our software engineer, is the lone male in an office full of women but no need to feel sorry for him. He gets pampered and mothered at every turn and seems to be quite happy with all the attention. On first meeting Chris you think he is a quiet, reserved guy but I have found out that he is the “Doctor Evil” of the office complete with purring cat. He is the brains behind most of the pranks in the office and spends months hatching plans to catch us all out (especially Karen). He may be a man of few words but that may be a direct result of him not getting a word in edgeways with the rest of the girls. For Christmas we may just have to club together to get him another guy to talk sport with in the office!
How long have you worked with Wedding Dates?
Just over a year now. It’s absolutely flown by, mainly because of the great team here and how fun they are to work with. I’ll just get the nice bits out of the way first before I start slating them later…
Do you live, eat and breathe weddings?
I definitely never thought I’d be working for a company in this area but it’s definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. You have no choice but to get into it in the office with how passionate the girls are about weddings. That came across to me from day one when I met Ciara Crossan for the first time. I feel like I could almost plan a wedding at this stage without any trouble. I do spend most of the day looking at code though so it’s not all about weddings for me as much as it is for them. I get all my latest celebrity news too whether I want it or not from Ciara Moore and Karen so I have no need for a Twitter or Instagram account, which is handy.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Pranking Karen. It’s almost part of my daily routine now. To be fair, she started it… I think.
What is your favourite music genre or band?
Favourite genre would be indie/rock and my favourite band is called Interpol. A special shout out to Karen’s wonderful whistling and singing here too and Vonla’s random Christmas Carols.
If there was a movie being made of your life who would you want to play you?
Will Ferrell. He has the same sense of humour so I think he’d be perfect. The film would definitely be a dark comedy.
Have you any special talents or gifts?
I play pitch and putt competitively so I would definitely say that though I’m handy at most other sports. I’ve won three county championships in the last few years and have also been lucky enough to win a National Championship with Cork.
What is your favourite way to spend a Saturday afternoon?
Either watching sport or playing it.
If you were stranded on a desert island what would be the one item you would have to have with you?
Sun cream. It’s not uncommon for me to get sunburnt in December!
Are there any great passions in your life whether they be people, hobbies, animals or objects?
I’m a huge Celtic fan. Obsessed would be putting it lightly. I’ve been over to Glasgow countless times to see them so hopefully we will open a WeddingDates office there in the future. I’m also very passionate about sleep.
