Oooh! It’s that’s time of year again…. The festive season. That time of year where your ventures to the outside world are very slim (we tend to hibernate). But, when we do manage to get outside, we want to feel as homely and snug as possible. One secret spot we discovered is the stunning Actons Hotel Kinsale. Kinsale is obviously a beautiful part of Cork (anyone who has travelled there can agree) but if you’re looking for somewhere to cuddle up to your loved one with (or even propose to), Actons Hotel Kinsale is an amazing spot. We caught up with Mary K O’Donovan from the hotel to get the scoop….
Christmas must be such a magical time at Actons Hotel! How do you prepare for a winter wedding at Actons Hotel?
It certainly is and getting a very popular time of the year for wedding receptions, Christmas starts early for us here in Actons our decorations are out up last week of November so festive season is a long one . The kitchen also start in early November preparation of our porter cakes, plum pudding and mince pies…. yum!!!
Is there anything you do differently from having a summer wedding?
Yes! Definitely… We have a lovely winter warmer welcome reception and have stunning different centre-pieces on tables.
What are some of your favorite winter warming food options to serve at Christmas time?
Warm Apple Strudel with Gingerbread Ice Cream, Actons Homemade Mince Pies with Caramelized Cream and Mulled Cider
Kinsale must be a lovely spot to pop the question. Have you ever had any interesting proposal stories at Actons Hotel?
Kinsale is absolutely a truly romantic spot and even more so in the winter. Few years ago a proposal took place on the mast (feature directly across the road from hotel) the gentleman asked if we could have bubbles and candles lighting for certain time and he popped question. They got married here with us the following December and have had many family events with us since including their daughter christening.
