Reeling Through The Years: Generation Weddings At The Shamrock Lodge Hotel

We’re kicking it back with the ultimate flashback Friday this week!

Family weddings and The Shamrock Lodge Hotel are like two lovebirds singing in sweet harmony from the same hymn sheet. Rooted at the heart of the hotel is a sentimental family history spanning three generations of McCaul men. General Manager Alan McCaul’s grandfather was a chef at the hotel when Princess Grace of Monaco visited in 1961, and so the family’s love affair with the property began. In 1993, the opportunity finally arose for his father Paddy McCaul to purchase the hotel, and Alan began working the floor as a young lad before progressing to work side-by-side with the matriarch of the family business.

With an endearing sense of charm and traditional hospitality in abundance, the hotel truly is a home away from home for guests. And it’s no surprise that generations of families follow suit by returning to The Shamrock Lodge to celebrate the most special day of their lives.

We caught up with Alan and Mary Glynn, who shared some of those love stories through the years; from photos of newlyweds, wedding receipts and menus dating as far back as the 1950’s, to snaps of those couples’ own children getting married.

They also shared the details of their up-coming Wedding Fair on Sunday 17th September 2017 with Spectacular Vintage Events. A wedding event with a difference, prospective couples can see The Shamrock Lodge in all its glory and discuss the hotel’s different wedding packages on the day. There will also be a host of unique vendors under one roof to help make your big day truly personal; from those seeking shabby chic vintage suppliers to glamorous on-trend details. Brides-to-be can sit and chat to their main ladies at the event’s vintage tea party whilst stocks last. Entry €5.00 per person.
